Today we head to the town of San Juan at Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. We arrive on a boat and walk around a bit checking out all the cool art and crafts....then we head to the Wine and Cheese cafe El Artesano. An epic location to treat yourself!
The music in the start of this video is traditional Mayan Music locally recorded here at the lake. The second song is and Italian opera. Both are open source.

Hello, in this post https://steemit.com/promo-steem/@pennsif/steemcommerce-businesses-accepting-payment-in-steem-v-2-3-january-2018 it mentions that you have a hotel in Guatemala that accepts STEEM/SBD. Do you have any more info ont this?
Hey @timcliff ....The information is correct. And beyond that i have taken on 3 steemit volunteers who came for 6 week stays at Hostal Del Lago. And 3 more steemians are scheduled to come starting at Christmas. I wrote one post about my hostal 4 months ago. This gives you an sense of my place and me.

p.s. i already have my flight booked for steemfest. Ill be there representing @comedyopenmic and @dtubedaily ...so maybe we can chat in person.
Cool. I just launched a new website listing businesses that accept STEEM/SBD. You can read about it here. If you want, I can add your business. Please just fill out the 'contact' form on the site with the necessary info :)
ok... i filled out form and sent it
Got it :)
I'll work on adding it early next week.
you are funny...sure... ill join your listing
The wine and cheese place look like a real nice place to do exactly what you all did but I have a question about all the fabrics you showed us. Are those all hand spun or woven right there in San Juan or other nearby cities and villages?
Yes.... they are all made in San Juan. There are 3 woman's cooperatives in San Juan, each with 20 women or more in the collective. There was a very short clip in that vid where you can see a woman weaving in front of the store, it would have been longer but i had a flash of guilt about filming her so it was brief.
That brief shot of her is what prompted the question. I didn't know if she was out there weaving because that is just part of how they do it or if she was out there more as a "prop" so that tourists would assume that all the fabric was hand woven there and then the stuff actually being machine made in China and just shipped in and sold.
More videos like this for @reactionaries and I.
Pleeeeeeeze!
yeah, i plan on continuing to rotate my vid style... and so you will see more lake Atitlan highlight vlogs. I will also start putting out little focuses on the Hostal. a few are in the pipe lines
Mayan culture has always fascinated me. To think, they're a civilization that has lasted for centuries. All the innovation, all the art. Definitely a pin on my bucket list!
here at the lake is a sweet vacay... if you ever find yourself in guatemala...dont hesitate to look me up!
Definitely! When STEEM moons, Guatemala is one of the top destinations for the missus and I. We'll put up an APB out for you!
Yay for wine and cheese! I would love to visit and see the El Castillo one day! Wow! the fabrics are so pretty! The cheese platter looks really divine...so much choice. Is the wine similar to a sangria?
yes the wine was a sangria. We started at 1... so the sangria was light and refreshing... then we shared some of there wines that they offered. Topped it all off with a sample tray of Brandy's. was indeed divine!
that fruity wine/sangria you were mixing looked sooo good. and that cheese platter. sounds like you had a great time!
Was truly a pleasure!
Wine and cheese are always a good idea in my book. Have a great time!
thanks...we did!
yeah , it's not a game it's a Culture , enjoy it
