Travelling Myanmar - Pictures and recommendations #1

I was so fortunate to visit Myanmar for 5 days. The worst part of the trip was the duration, 5 days is not enough! I travelled Yangon, up to Bagan, out to Inle Lake in the east and back to Yangon.

Day 1 was in Yangon where we landed in the morning. We started of by seeing the Sule Pagoda, which is a beautiful pagoda located in the city center in the middle of a roundabout. City center is also the area where a lot of buildings from the colonial time is preserved, definitely worth seeing. After that we were blessed by a massive rain shower, so we had to sit and wait in a 5 star hotel for 2 hours before the rain stopped (not a bad place to be stuck btw). When the rain stopped we walked around the Kandawgyi lake, where we found the stunning Karaweik Palace.

Next stop was the big reclining Buddha, which is immensely big. Here we were approached by a local man who tried to convince us to stay in their monastery and meditate for 12 hours a day. We kindly rejected the offer, but he insisted that we came and saw where the monks lived. That lead to a meeting with one of the oldest monk who blessed me and wished us safe travels. We were super excited about the authentic experience we just had, but the excitement stopped when he asked for contribution (yeah yeah, what did we expect..) 5 min and 5000 kyat later, we were out of there on our way to try one of the highest ranked restaurants on Tripadvisor; Jana Mon Ethnic Cuisine - food was amazing, but took 40 minutes before they served, so not 5 stars from me this time.
Finally the day ended when we reached Yangon Bus Termnial, for our 10 hour busride up to Bagan - here we used JJ Express which I can highly recommend.
