Yesterday I got slightly lost while dragging my dried fruit around with my shoulders aching when I finally arrived at my hostel - it's been a while since I have carried a heavy backpack with me.
But long ramble short: I decided to take another night here and buy the ticket for the buss going straight to Krakow from here, Riga.
The yesterday's "episode" might've simply been a result of needing to "calibrate" myself for this sudden change - as if my soul couldn't keep up with the speed of a car after cycling; the morning I woke up from my own bed, and at the end of the same day I ended up to a new city in a country yet to visit. That coupled with the unexpected nature of hitchhiking - and my inexperience with it - having to meet a deadline, and my box of dried fruit, I decided to take the safe option which is still well within my budget range. An additional reason is that I strangely enjoy long bus rides; when I went hiking to Lapland four years ago, the journey there was an overnight bus ride, like the one to Krakow will be. Being enclosed into the same place for so long (20+ hours) there's enough time for people's masks to dissolve and see them with authenticity. It's an intimate atmosphere, yet still not overwhelming, because most people are reasonable enough not to force a conversation.
Anyhow, today I got intentionally lost into the streets of Riga and the old town. To lose myself and forget who I am for a moment. But luckily technology exists; I can always check the way back to the hostel from the phone if I get lost.
I went to check what's on the other side of the bridge.
Optical illusion :D
Came back the other bridge.
Guards guarding something.
I like how the towers peek unexpectedly from the narrow streets.
There are some tourists here, but I'm sure there are a whole lot more during the summer and spring, so in that regard autumn is a good time to not be driven into the awkward situation of taking a picture of the same landmark at the same time as another tourist all the time.
what a lovely city! I like the way you think - I like to get lost too! See you in Krakow!
See you soon :)
