Switzerland | A day in Swiss Alps

in #travel7 years ago

Switzerland! I do not think any other word out there would be required to describe the country other than the name “Switzerland” itself. Having said that, it is home to innumerable majestic mountains. Swiss Alps are the highest mountain range in Europe that distributed over 8 nations!

So, today’s post will be all about one of the spectacular Swiss Alps – “Savognin”. Located in eastern part of Switzerland, the mountain has awe-inspiring views. With its large ski area and steep ravines, the destination is paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Besides winter sports enthusiasts, a number of walking trails along with spectacular view also lure trekkers.

Our journey started from Germany before the sunrise. Drive midst urban area, hamlets and the craggy Alps undoubtedly made the ride full of oh-wow moments. It took a good three and a half hours drive to reach Savognin. Standing amidst foot of vast mountains left me dumbstruck for a while.

Reaching the top of the mountain was possible either by trekking for few hours or by a gondola, which takes hardly few minutes. As we had only one day to explore, we ended up using gondola. Once you are on top, activities to choose from are vast. If you want to just sit and relax amidst mountain, enjoy the beautiful view while sipping a cup of coffee or beer with your loved ones, the place has few restaurants, beer gardens with open-air live music. If you are a winter sports aficionado, you would certainly enjoy every bit of your time.

Never tried winter sports but you are looking forward to one? Here you go, you can even enroll yourself for a short session and start skiing right away! 😊 On the other hand, if you are a person like me who embrace hiking, you can pick any dedicated trail to hike down the hill. The Trails will pass through a hamlet where you can take a break and refill your stomach before moving forward, and that is what we chose 😊 Here are few photos of our walking trail passing through the beautiful landscape.

Wow. You made a good choice there with Savognin. I live in switzerland and can enjoy some mountains from my balcony. :-)
If you have time you should visit the Berner Oberland. It is not that far from the capital and there are some fantastic mountains too. I always enjoy snowboarding there.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy the time there.
Make sure to try the regional cheese if you are into that!

@rheteric - Thanks a lot for your comment and suggestions :) Happy to know more. Btw, Berner Oberland area is exactly the place I want to visit and even had planned for the coming weekend. To be precise want to visit this wonderful place with a small lake called Bachalpsee (and do a night photography :)). Wow, this place has been in my mind for quite some time and want to be there soon before the end of summer. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not so promising for coming weekend as I planned to do some wild camping there :) Although I heard wild camping is not allowed in Switzerland, is it okay to camp somewhere in mountains?(just being ourself not harming wildlife or nature!)

Great to know that you are from Switzerland. There are a lot of places around that area and would like to plan and explore one by one as It's like 4 hours drive from the place where I live. Would be happy to stay connected with you and open to your suggestions :)

You're welcome. Yeah there is a lot to explore in this area. the Bachalpsee was recently suggested to me by a co-worker but I was never there myself yet. Those pictures will turn out great i hope.
I'm not so sure about the camping. In general it is not allowed to camp in the wild. There are a lot of campings around lakes, but i've never heard of any in the mountains. There will most certanly be nobody to watch out for wild campers so you should be fine if you are maybe a little hidden. The police is in general very kind to tourists so even if you encounter some (which I doubt) you should be fine. :-)

Of course. Let's stay connected and if you need to know something then just ask. Maybe i can give you an answer. Right now there is a great streetfestival called Buskers in Bern. That one would be worth visiting if you are close.
Cheers and enjoy the mountains!

@rheteric - Alright. Let see how it goes. Excited to be there. Thanks and have a great weekend :)
