Koh Pen Bamboo Bridge

in #travel8 years ago

Koh Pen Bamboo Bridge is by all account not the only bamboo bridge in Cambodia, yet the one gets the most press and it located in the middle of  the Mekong River in Kompong Cham city. Koh Pen Bamboo Bridge is an amazing feat of building that happens each dry season to help the villagers on the island of Koh Pen connects with the Kampong Cham city.

It is the longest bamboo bridge in the world and during rainy season Mekong River water submerges the bridge, and a ferry must be taken to reach the town. Consistently the bridge is remade in the dry season that is sufficiently solid for bikes, motorbikes and cars to utilize on it, the bamboo bridge seemed very novel to us.

Amid the monsoon, when the water rises, the stream swallows the bridge and it is feasible to reach the island just by boat or ferry; however the bamboo bridge is re-built at each dry season.

Just a 15-minute stroll from the primary riverside area or quick hop on a bike or motor, the bridge is an experience in its own right after paying an entry fee. The inquisitive rattling as vehicles of all portrayals — even trucks and, to our delight, a horse and cart — pass over it to get to Koh Pen, the very scenic island on the other side.

This is an exquisite excursion in case you're searching for a relaxing diversion, and an opportunity to see one of the prettier Cambodian towns we've run over. The island seemed to be virtually litter-free, which is painfully unusual. Along shaded paths, wooden, stilted houses are tucked in along palm and sandalwood trees and extraordinary sprouts of bougainvillea.

Koh Pen's primary economic activities are agriculture and fishing, therefore many people living on the island are either fishermen or they work in one of the tobacco plantations.
