Shanghai is more cosmopolitan than the other cities in China we visited so getting around was extremely easy. The subways are easy to navigate and there are plenty of people who speak English. We were here 3 years ago and the difference in the traffic pattern is remarkably different. I believe the biggest change is the addition of left turn signals. I actually feel safe crossing the streets - not safe safe, but more like I don't feel like I'm taking my life in my hands when crossing. :)
