Meaford is one of the larger municipal centers in Grey County. Primarily a tourist destination during the summer, Meaford is still a hub of winter activity. Only minutes away from Collingwood, it provides a lot of ski and snowmobile trails for snow enthusiasts.
Interesting Meaford Facts -
- Meaford was one of the primary shooting locations for Disney’s Christmas film “One Magic Christmas”. Incidentally, the name of the fictional town in the film was “Medford” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089731/?ref_=ttloc_loc_tt)
- Meaford is very close to the Billy Bishop Regional Airport. Billy Bishop was a Canadian World War 1 flying ace with an accredited 72 victories, making him Canada’s top performer
- During March 2018, people flocked to Meaford to see the “blue ice”. This is a phenomenon where snow attaches to ice and compresses out the air. The increased density of the nice makes it appear blue, rather than clear
- Like many small Ontario towns, Meaford has a festival fashioned around its harvest. The Apple Harvest Craft Show features over 200 exhibits covering needlework, blacksmithing, pottery and other arts
