I still have a few rolls from India to be processed and by now I've completely forgotten what's on them. That for me, is the beauty of 35mm photography. The image above was taken near Pune Rail Station, it is of two humble farmers sat by the roadside supervising the transport of oranges. The man on the left threw me a genuine smile and they were more than happy to be photographed.
These fantastic Goats were photographed in Rishikesh in the foothill of the Himalayas, on our way to the Beatles Ashram, an abandonded Ashram in the jungle where the Beatles once studied and wrote most of The White Album. Most of you will know, my photography features many animals, I am a proud vegan and Goats to me only resemble my dogs. Trusting, pretty and very clever and agile animals.
On my way to develop some 35mm film rolls at the only place in town that remembers how to I spotted this charming moment. The motorbike moves people in India. From A to B it is the single best mode of transport and one of the dirtiest. These gentlemen move some balloons to presumably a family party or event in the hot summers day.
I was sad to see I'd messed up the exposure on this shot as I remember the moment quite well. It reminded me of a similar photograph I took in East Malaysia of birds circulating around an old building. Never the less it show's what it shows and sometimes there is a certain beauty to image noise when it is natural like this.
The days were so humid that poor Sulley could only melt himself to the marble floor and wait for the sun to drop. A typical day in the room where I spent 3 months with a broken leg and little help.
A chapatti chef takes a break in the blistering heat from his section to watch the day pass by. I found the work ethic in India to be very mixed. If a business was failing the effort was very low but if you visited a local business in high demand, where the staff were paid well, service was great, fast and efficient. This was one of the first places we ate when we arrived in Pune and returned many times. Cheap and friendly and delicious.
That concludes my second episode of Film Fridays, hope you enjoyed it!
