ASIAN TRAVELOGUE #2: GONDOLA DE MACAU

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

My second Asian travel sent me to the beautiful city of Macau last April 12, 2011. Travelling with friends at that time made me more daring to visit specific places I wouldn't dare go alone.

Macau is located in Southeast Asia, approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) southwest of Hong Kong, bordering China. It has a land area of 21 square kilometers or 8.3 square miles. It is composed of the islands of Taipa and Coloane and Macau City. Typically, Macau reflects a blend of Asian and Western culture. It's like stepping on a common ground of two different cultures packed in one.

A travel to Macau would never be complete without the Gondola experience down the canals of the Shoppes at the Venetian Hotel. This is one of Macau's tourist attractions bringing in thousands of visitors every year.

"The gondola (/ˈɡɒndələ/; Italian:) (gondola) is a traditional, flat-bottomed Venetian rowing boat, well suited to the conditions of the Venetian lagoon. It is similar to a canoe, except it is narrower."

As you take your ride on a gondola, a gondolier will sing to you during your ride, through the Marco Polo or Grand Canals of Shoppes at the Venetian Hotel. The wonderful experience will put you in a euphoric feeling which at times, lull you to sleep. You will then take home with you a keepsake photo for you to recall the memorable experience, you had in Macau in a gondola.
