The history of Girona, Temps de Flors is also a story of young entrepreneurs who, 61 years ago today, decided to organize the first edition of what they called Concurso Provincial Exhibition Hall Flores Rest of the Municipal Theater. The good response and interest from people who visited that space in 1954 pushed ahead in an event that has become the largest international festival of Girona, an activity that attracts people from all over the world.

The festival grew each year, both in terms of the space that housed as involvement, growing, citizenship and social fabric of the city. Hall of break, that first year it was small, it went to the Hall of Parchments Public Library and then to the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants. Later went to convent and cloister of Santo Domingo. Then it began to spread various courtyards and gardens of the Old Town, as the square of the Jury, the cloister of the Cathedral Square Gardens or Narcissus Figueras.

The evolution of the festival saw a key point in 1979 when it was organized for the first time on behalf of the Association of the Friends of the Flowers and Gardens. Later, in 1983, it also implied the Friends of Old Girona, who managed the opening of many private patios and gardens that during the rest of the year remained closed to the public . In 1992 the City of Girona is definitely involved in the organization and the combination of these events led to a qualitative and quantitative crucial for the projection of the festival.

In 2016, the city was awarded the European Prize, a distinction granted annually by the Council of Europe since 1955 to those municipalities that have made remarkable efforts to promote the ideal of European unity. It was the second Spanish city in obtaining the award, after Santiago de Compostela (1985).

Beautiful Colour... :)

I love Girona posts. Girona was the best city that I have ever been in Europe dear @crazystreak. Do you know this door https://steemit.com/photography/@readerchitect/girona-spain at Girona? I liked very much Girona's historical atmosphere and streets. I hope I can go to there one day again. :)

I'm not sure, but the place looks like I've seen it 😊

There is a huge historical park at there. I think this door was at there. I loved Girona's historical and architectural pattern. Really worth to see and travel!

I hope you can visit the city again 😀

Thanks mate :)
