Daily Nature Fix: Sepia Tone Ghost Town. (Original Photos)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone.  For tonight's Daily Nature Fix, I'm going to post a few of my favorite photos I took in the Death Valley ghost town of Rhyolite, but I editing them in photoshop a bit.  I wanted to try to make them look like they were from the early 1900's/late 1800's, so I added some sepia coloration, really messed around with the contrast, then added some grain to them.  I'm not sure if I achieved the effect I was going for, but they look pretty cool either way. Take a look!

^^^This is the train station.  It's, by far, the most intact building in Rhyolite.  It had a very cool Tex-Mex architecture to it.

^^^Here is one of the graves in the nearby cemetery.  Many of the headstones were made of wood and, as you can see here, they have been weathered heavily over the last century and many were splitting apart.  No names or words were even remotely visible.

^^^An abandoned gold mine entrance in the mountainside surrounding Rhyolite.

^^^The facade of the HD & LD Porter mercantile. There was a really cool wooden general store that remained in the town, but it burnt down from a lightening strike only like 2 months before my trip there.  Bummer.  This stone one was still pretty awesome though.

Awesome photos! Death Valley looks cool

Thanks! It was cool.... I've been itching to go back.

I have been looking for a ghost town! Next stop Rhyolite.

I'd recommend it. The cemetery was especially cool. It was around from around 1905 - 1910, I believe.

What what an amazing place. I remember visiting a ghost town in New Mexico - rather an odd experience but really fascinating.

Do you have any recommendations on cool ones in New Mexico? We're going there in December!

Thank you for posting this lovely moment in time for you. Love it. Followed...

@customnature Well done for sticking at it! Love it. Followed..

This is supercool! @customnature Thanks! Followed...

Excellent post! I really enjoyed the photos. I may be planning a motorcycle trip there this year and thinking about camping over night in a ghost town.

We camped in the park for 5 nights. I would recommend going in the winter time though... the weather was nice, just a little chilly at night but not too bad.

Great photos. I love the colour editing . Awesome feel of history . Captivating nostalgia. :)

That's what I was going for! Some textbook wild west vibes. :)
