Island Burano - a photo-lover’s paradise

in #travel7 years ago

Brightly-painted buildings and flowerpots! Those aren’t from the main island of Venice, but Burano.
Their painted homes in bright colors designate where their family’s quarters ended and a neighbor’s began. Also to make their homes more visible from the sea.

Today, Burano is a rainbow of fun, bright colors—and the perfect place for that great Venice photo-up. I am guilty. I convinced my friends to go there with me just to take pictures.
I mean look at that picture!

There is one main street with restaurants and little stores, so if you go, you have a variety to chose from. There is not really much to do though, apart from walking in empty streets and greeting the inhabitants.

Did you know that Burano is a true fisherman’s island?
While there are tourist parts of Burano, much of it still has the working-island feel that can be hard to find on Venice.
Fishing boats come in at the end of the day with their catch and you can find the fish being prepared in the restaurants for the Tourists. But don't worry. I don't like seafood and had delicious pasta instead. To be honest the food on that Island convinced all of us and got more Stars than when we ate in Venice. This might be for the strong Tourism in Venice: Quantity over Quality.

Burano is quite isolated with an half-hour trip from the island of Venice by boat. And flooding happens every winter.
I guess you should visit soon because less people will live there and Tourism may stop one day,
But I wouldn't miss this Island on your Have-To-Go-List.

The way to get there is by a boat, that leaves every hour and costs about 6.50 Euros. It takes about 30-45 min.

But you can also improvise like us and just jump in the water while waiting for the boat taking us back to Venice.
Did I tell you that we took the wrong boat, one of the fisherman lied to us, my friends got pretty mad but than we just enjoyed the late boat-trip.
