Edinburgh trip - Part 3
If you haven't already, why not check out part 1 or 2.
Part 1 Getting around the dialect. Scott Monmuent.
Part 2 Calton Hill, (wow) and airbnb
Welcome to PART 3
Royal Mile, Waverly Station, West Princess St Gardens and Scottish Parliament.
My route went from Wavelry station, across the West Princess Street gardens, and then down the Royal Mile to the Scottish Parliament building , Holyrood.
Compact City Centre
Getting around is easy on foot, and the journey from the station to the Parliament is probably an hour, or less or more depending on how fast you walk as a tourist!! (Slower for me with my camera!!)
I've posted this rather excellent map courtesy of Mobi Maps, please visit their website here
Waverly Station
If you are visiting the city centre you will probably arrive at or somewhere near Waverly Station. It's an impressive building with a small shopping centre / food court inside the structure.
The roof is imposing and as a photographer I loved the symmetry and straight lines. As the station sits below the main streets, It can be viewed from above.
West Princes Street Gardens
Not that impressive, but nice and relaxing, a good view of the castle, and plenty of chances to take photographs. There were some nice flowers in bloom at the time as well.
The Royal Mile.
Walking down from the castle, towards the Scottish Parliament building is a nice experience, with pubs, tourist shops and lots of tourists!! Nice architecture around, and again a good chance to get some photos (again :) ) If nothing else, Edinburgh is certainly a photogenic city!!! Hence why it is the second most visited place in the UK after London.
My pics are more of the street photo style than architectural, but you can get an idea of the ambience.
Check out that ##$* car.
It's not the End of the World darling, I only want a wee dram.
Scottish Parliament Building.
On arriving at the bottom end of the Royal Mile , you will find the Scottish Parliament building on your right. I saw that it's free entry, and after going through the obligitary airport style security, I was in !! The building has some nice architecture inside, and the staff were very friendly.
Well worth a visit!! And free!!
This is the end of Part 3, the final Part 4 will be about my journey to the spectacular Arthur's seat!!!
A preview pic of Arthur's seat.
