Everything I was I carry with me, everything I will be lies waiting on the road ahead. ―Red Dust: A Path Through China by Ma Jian
Hello my Steemit Fretz!
Welcome to my Travel Blog Series! This is a collection of my travels & adventure photos and stories that I have kept throughout the years. Some are old school and some are current but they are wonderful memories nonetheless.
Here’s another sequel of my travel experience in Ilocos Norte. For those who haven’t checked it out, you can find them here:
I’ve only touched on the historic and scenic side of the region. Now, it’s time for another adventure!
About La Paz Sand Dunes
Mother Nature has been very generous in providing us with different adventures for us to have an unforgettable adventure, from exploring caves, jumping waterfalls, and many more.
Who would’ve thought that aside from lazing and sunbathing, there’s more to sand that we could’ve imagined? This time we’re going to experience sand in a whole different light at the La Paz Sand Dunes. This majestic sand dune is the most ideal platform for orgasmic and heart-thumping activities
Acknowledged as a National Geological Monument in 1993, the La Paz Sand is a unique attraction that you can find in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. The desert land area is roughly 85 sq. km. wide and it has an appealing view of the West Philippine Sea.
Locally called as Bantay Bimmaboy, where “bimmaboy” means pig because they describe the dune’s form as pig-like in shape.
Going There
The call time for our Sand Dunes trip is six am and while we were waiting outside of our hotel, I didn’t expect that we would be picked up by 4x4 off-road jeeps. I was thinking, “Oh! Oh! What did I get into?” That’s the perks when you let your friend’s friends do the itinerary, you’ll be in a for a sweet surprise.
4x4 Off-road Adventure
As we arrive, the dunes were wet (disadvantage of visiting off-season) but it is still beautiful what more if we had gone there on a dry season. I thought we’re just going to go down the jeep, go for a stroll, and look around. I was WRONG! ^^
I suggest you only have a light meal before your 4x4 ride because the ride itself can turn your internal organs upside down. I had to hold on for dear life. The 4x4 is slowly increasing in speed until we reach a wavy terrain where we had to hold on tight because it’s bumpy and jumpy. You’re insides just feel like they’re going 360.
I think the best parts are going downhill. The 4x4 just accelerates right away going down the slope. It was so exhilarating.
My throat hurt due to all the screeching and shouting during the ride. ^^
We also stopped by on top of the hill, which gives you wide view of the city and the lovely Laoag river.
Would I do this again? Yes, definitely.
Sandboarding
Sandboarding is the same as a snowboarding but minus the snow. This leisure activity is done by riding down the sand dunes. Sandboarding is popular in countries like South Africa, Egypt, Australia or other countries that have large masses of sand.
You can go down the slope while sitting down the board or be like a pro and go down whilst standing up. Expect to get sand all over your body. Doing it once will never be enough, you’ve got to do it again to be good at it. (Unfortunately, was so busy trying this out that I didn't take pics)
Aside from Sandboarding, you can also rent an ATV if you want to stroll around the Dunes yourself. We didn’t do this though. The 4x4 off-road ride was enough for us
.This is one of my unforgettable buhis-buhay activities. I’d definitely want to experience this again. How about you fretz, which one do you like most?

Wow that was really cool and epic experiences there beautiful place :D
Yikes.. I can't imagine having sand everywhere, that must be really uncomfortable.
What an action packed trip. Crammed a lot of people in that ATV too.
It was pretty exciting and you get to scream lots.lol
That looks like fun. I used to be into snowboarding( don't seem to get a chance now). Many years back I made a couple of sand boards and it was awesome if you could find a decent sized sand dune. I like the photo too. Thanks
I've never touched nor seen snow.
Did you sell those sand dunes or sold it? ^^
We had a ton of snow at Christmas. It was the first time my youngest had seen a proper amount.
The sand boards were before I started my business, they were just a project. I have no idea what happened to them.
Wow. I'm in another part of the world but might not survive of the cold. ^^
But would love to go to a place with ice and snow.
You certainly know how to enjoy life Dawny :D
Keep up the good "work" heheh
