Bishnupur is known as terracotta heritage of India. There are more than thirty temples sprinkled across a wide area which stand testimony to the incredible craftsmanship of the artisans of the region, all set up during the time in power of the Mallas. These temples were crafted from the local laterite and brick and covered with terracota tiles depicting scenes from the epic Mahabharata.
For almost a thousand years it was the capital of the Malla kings of Mallabhum, till their power waned during the times when Mughal Empire weakened under the last monarchs of the dynasty.
The Rasmancha (It was commissioned by Mallabhum king Hambir Malla Dev ).During the Vaishnava Ras festival, all the Radha Krishna idols of Bishnupur town used to be brought here to be worshipped by the citizens.
Jorebangla Temple of Keshta Rai
This is the well-known Jorbangla temple, specially known as the finest monument in Vishnupur with rich terra-cotta upon outer walls and inside.

Terracotta is characteristic of Bishnupur. Apart from the temples, terracotta pottery, artifacts and even jewellery are very famous.
