Traveling is a great investment because it’s more about investing in yourself. You invest in self-growth, mental development, broadening your horizon and having a balanced sense of self. Everything in life cannot be learned just by reading and staying in the same place, you have to actually apply what you’ve learned and turn it into experiences.
Experience is the great teacher.
Traveling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.
You might not have a bigger house or a nicer car but you have a lifetime worth of experiences and dreams bigger than those. It is important to invest in experiences. You will always lose things, no matter how hard you try to protect and control them. But those experiences you get from traveling cannot be taken away from you, and you can even used it to gain more in life. Spending your money in travel is not just a one time purchase, unlike most things. Travel is the only thing you buy that can give you the biggest return.
It is as if you have a big vault that only you have the key to access those valuable learnings somewhere down your inner mind.
It is also the kind of investment that you would want to share with anybody, to inspire and make other people richer too. After you have invested in yourself, then it’s time to share those experiences and everything you have learned from your travel, and hopefully, those around you will benefit from it.
Here are the top reasons why traveling is the only thing that makes you richer.
Traveling gives you happiness
If you feel like you are trapped in a situation, a dead-end job or a toxic relationship, and you can’t seem to find the possibilities in new situations anymore, then traveling can help you awaken that inner happiness. As you go explore new places, as you meet new people, and as you spend more time in nature, you’ll realize that all those times, happiness was just somewhere down your heart that needed to be awakened. Traveling can help you appreciate all the things you have, it can give you a new outlook on life, making you realize the things that make you happier. Perhaps you become aware that living close to nature makes you happier, or that helping out people or doing something for a good cause through volunteering gives you a more sense of fulfillment. Whatever that is, traveling can uncover anything that makes your heart leap for joy.
It is for your own self-growth
When you've hit rock bottom, the only way is to go up. When you feel like the normal routine of life is not helping you become a better version of yourself anymore, then traveling can help you take some time-off, for those people around you and most importantly for yourself. As you go to unfamiliar places, exposing yourself to constant changes, you grow as a human being. You will find that in some parts of the world, some people are happy enough with what they have and that some don’t even have what have right now. As you witness the realities of life outside your bubble, you will develop a sense of realization. You will realize that probably something needs to be changed in you, rather than trying to change the world. And after traveling, as you back home, you will see how much you have changed as a person.
Traveling restores your faith in humanity
When you are consumed and stressed out with the daily routine of life, and you are seeing the same faces every day, you grow weary and sometimes you become the worst version of yourself. You start hating everyone around you, blaming them for your unhappiness. And in this digital age, you found internet as your safe refuge. As it helps boost your confidence and lets you find comfort in this new-found way of isolating yourself. You lose trust in people as you become more and more isolated. As you travel to the unknown, meeting interesting people along the way will make you crave for a more human connection in life. You’ll realize as you travel how many people would be there to help you and keep you safe, even if you don’t really know them. No matter how bad the world seems at this moment, there’s still this human instinct to help those in need. To be a brother from another mother. Traveling breaks the stereotypes and helps eliminate your limited view of other people.
It broadens your perspective
The time will come when you would want to break the routine as you realize you just become limited to the place where you have been living all your life. At some point you would want to get away from it all to gain some fresh perspective, so you can come back with an appreciation of the things you have in life. When you go try new things in life, or go on an adventure, you’ll realize all the things you have been missing out on. That the world is big for a reason, and it’s for you to explore. You’ll see how you were wrong about other countries and about other people as traveling helps you experience the real thing, and not just limiting your belief to what you only you see in media. It helps you unlearn those things you’ve been conditioned to believe all your life.
Traveling is the door to new opportunities
If you want to have new ideas or if you are thinking of changing your career to do something more meaningful to you, then traveling can help you explore new possibilities. Perhaps you want to rediscover your passion and do something that truly makes you happy. Traveling exposes you to new culture, new places and lets you meet people from all walks of life. You will be able to have new ideas that can help change your life. There are infinite possibilities on the road, and all you have to do is just take that leap of faith and open yourself up. Don’t be afraid to try out new things that can give you a more sense of fulfillment. You have the freedom to change the things in your life that don’t give meaning to you, you have a lifetime of unlimited possibilities. Sometime you realize that you’re just letting all those opportunities pass. By traveling, you can be aware again of those things that you should have taken into consideration, those things that will be the big change in your life. Traveling helps you build other plans and start all over again.
Traveling is a great investment for those who are still looking for their place in this world or for those who want to find their purpose in life. There’s no better time than now, so get your heart pounding and go out and see the world. The choice is yours.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. – Mark Twain

I totally agree, traveling and experiences are very important. To bad that90% of society don't do it. Great blog :)
Thanks! :)
Me too. I love travelling :) by the way nice post :)
While I've traveled I've met a lot of college students who take on debt to travel. I completely agree that travel is an incredible investment in oneself. But what's your opinion on taking out loans to travel while in college?
While I've met a lot of people who are taking out loans to travel and they don't see anything wrong with it, I can respect that. For me, I would probably find other ways to earn money to fund my travel, rather than have the worry of being in debt. Especially if someone is living in a developed country where there are more opportunities to earn more, and the currency has more value by traveling to cheaper countries. It would sound like exploiting for some, but it actually helps those countries that rely on tourism.
As I've written on my post, you'll be exposed to new possibilities or opportunities that you might want to consider in life, whether living in another country, meeting the love of your life, entrepreneurship opportunity or studying abroad, but having a debt will just make you go back to your country, instead of having the freedom to grab those opportunities and making a life-changing decision straight away.
very good point you made...investing in experiences is one of the most underrated investment topics...people don't realize that they have spent most of their lifetime in chasing after materialistic things and they leave the world feeling dejected since they hardly had any memorable moments in life to cherish...I don't want to make the same mistake...I have already started a saving fund dedicated entirely for traveling expenses :)
Exactly! And I won't stop posting about the importance of 'investing in experiences'. Because I know and I've been there, and I won't stop...
That's really good for you, may you have more travels and more meaningful experiences along the way @vj1309
thanks :)
There is this quote by Lao Tzu that perfectly captures it: If you tell me, I will listen. If you show me, I will see. If you let me experience, I will learn.
That is a nice one @unitedworld.
You are so right. Traveling is actually make you reached inside!
True that! Thanks

I'm travelling by living and working in different countries, when I've seen enough I move on, love it!
Living and working in different countries allow us to take our time in each place and immerse ourselves in the culture. Thanks @abh12345
Great article. I totally agree, traveling widens your social contacts. Very nicely explained. :D
Thanks!
Absolutely all true and for me the only way to survive in this crazy world is to explore it!
Staying in your comfort-zone only makes you comfortably numb... (just wrote something about this too)
Not knowing that 'Routine kills !'
Keep on moving
Exactly! The great affair is to move. I'll check out your posts @frankhappa :)
Awesome post, totaly agree, investing in yourself IS important, thanks for sharing #keepsteemin :)
Thanks!
In the end, travelling also cheaper than sticking to one place.
I agree! @sjennon. No bills and rent to worry about.
Very nice post dear, I agree with you & I love Traveling too <3
Thanks!
very good read as usual.
as you wrote if you stuck in life for whatever reasons just leaving and traveling gives you a new perspective and how much of your unhappiness is just made up in your mind. You get a look at your life from a "higher" point and see what you want and what you need in it.
Thanks as always @flipstar.
Yes I agree, travel makes us reflect on our lives and help us decide what's the best next move.
I couldn't agree more. Great post!
Thanks for sharing!
No worries!
