My Canadian Quarter

in #travel9 years ago (edited)

Canadians call their dollar coins looneys, I don't know how they call their quarters, maybe toons, that would be funny.

More than a year ago my sister and her family moved to Canada, it was part of a very difficult period of the life of my family, she didn't tell anybody, it was a shock to all of us.

Things are better now, problems are less scary, though always present, She has a lovely house there and my nieces are very happy.

I was sad when she moved mainly because I wasn't going to be a bigger part of my nieces growing up.

Earlier this year we went to visit her and took a trip around many parts like Quebec and Ottawa.

Aside all the memories all I returned with was a Canadian quarter, I kept it as a lucky charm as I sometimes do, I don't really believe in lucky charms but I do get attached to things sometimes.

I decided I wanted to give it away to somebody that might appreciate it, i stayed in my pocket for months, then, one day I gave it to a random store clerk.

At first I felt a bit of a loss, then it turned a bit like a relief, I don't know, I hope it brings her luck, and a bit of good karma to me.

Not that I believe in karma either.

When they introduced the $2 coin here in Canada there was all sorts of speculation on what people would call it, twoonie is what won out but I remember there was talk of doubloonie which would have been hilarious.

dobloonie did get a laugh out of me! lol
