If Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov many know, or have heard about him, then first of all as about the father of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. But a monument to him was erected in our city not for that. Judge for yourself: Ilya Nikolayevich died in 1886, at the age of 55, and was buried with honors at the cemetery of the Pokrovsky monastery.
Ilya Nikolayevich was an ardent supporter of equal education for all nationalities, did much to educate people in the Simbirsk province of non-Russian nationalities: the Tatars, the Mordovians, the Chuvash. With his support, the Simbirsk Central Chuvash School was opened, new schools and colleges were opened for peasant children and youth. Therefore, the sculptor added a monument with a sculpture of a peasant boy with an open book. The monument was opened in 1957.
The city has another monument to Ilya Nikolayevich, it is installed next to the pedagogical university, where young cadres of teachers are forged.
