I don’t know if you guys are familiar with Spanish traditions, but this event right here, normally held on the 5th of January to user is assumedly the Spanis version of Christmas, is one of the biggest events here if not the biggest.
I happened to attend another one this year, but in a different side of the country, and as true to its nature, it did not disappoint.
The Cavalcade of the Magi is a traditional parade with floats carrying the wise men taking place in practically all Spanish cities and villages, in Andorra and Argentina, in some cities and towns in Mexico and Gibraltar.
This event draws crowds of Spanish families to their hometowns. They adorn Nativity decorations with the Three Kings on January 5. Children leave their shoes outside overnight in anticipation of a visit from the wise men. Their shoes will have gifts for them in the morning.
So in a way, in Spain kids get 2 Christmas’s, hence double gifts.
On this day, we experienced lots of performances and display of all sorts of manner. From dances, to animals display, to showers of sweets (literally), there’s this part where the 3 wise kids throw sweets to people on the street, as a way to wish them good luck in the coming year.
All in all, it was an absolutely great event, and I cannot wait for the end of year to experience it again.
Here’s a few photos that I captured while out enjoying the event in Benidorm this year.
