French Renovations
I have been back in France for nearly two weeks and A is still not here and nothing started on house yet, which is very French, but so happy to be here. The sun is shining and there is a warm breeze. I'm quite enjoying being on my own as it's been a long time since I have been. And now I am on my own my sense of direction has improved amazingly!!
I've started to get quite attached to my little renault which I hated at first because it just didn't feel safe. You feel every bump as it lurches across the road and its like driving a go cart , but I have got used to her now . I feel very french when I drive her and it has started first time with choke even on the frostiest mornings. Not bad for a 30 year old classic. She will have to be sold sadly though to pay for windows or something for the house.
Been doing the same dog walk for the last few days as there is a good hill at the start and it is not toolong for my old Jack russel , but at the end of the walk there has been a skinny dog chained up which always upsets me and seems quite common in France , but today he was free and came charging towards us looking very happy so its good to know he is not permanently chained there.
So good to be here for the start of spring and to see some blue skies.
I've been looking for some things on local ebay and have so far found a rough old, but charming free caravan but think it might need a bit too much restoration as we have enough of that on our plate, some bamboo which i wanted for a part of the courtyard and a free old wardrobe to up-cycle. Quite pleased with my finds. All close by and good way to explore local villages. I met the local Maire yesterday too. Our conversation was limited by my still poor French, but he now knows I have bought the house and that it needs a lot of work and he was very friendly and smiley so fingers crossed he will be supportive of the work that needs doing.
Saw an advert on FB site for a job cleaning Gites, but the
job had gone , but I messaged the lady anyway to say keep me in mind as I am close by and as I am a beauty therapist would she like to offer my services to her rental clients and she is very keen so going to see her next week to give her a treatment so fingers crossed. Very pleased with her positivity.
Not as blue skied today, but been to a french chatterbox class this morning that was quite fun where the french practice English and visa versa. Good way to meet a nice mix of people and drink coffee and eat cake!
Let me know if you have had experience of finding work abroad and how you did it.
Absolutely beautiful photos! What an old car.
I'm surprised you'll sell the car. It doesn't exactly look like a public transit friendly part of the country!
Thank you. Yes you definitely need a car, but I came over in a golf that needs some work on the breaks after 10 hour drive here, but think will have more life in than the Renault and will hopefully get a bit more for Renault as french registered .
Je ne sais pas si tu connais ce site de petite annonce, très populaire en France. https://www.leboncoin.fr
