In Roatan it is quite expensive, on the mainland it is much cheaper but still it has increased very much after 1990, in the first decade of this century we had a lot of foreigners who were living here because their pensions went a lot further than back in their countries, But then violence began peaking and a lot of them left.
Ok, I just asked my niece she lives in West End on Roatan, she rents an apartment for about US230.00, pays about $60.00 for power, water and cable (don't know if this includes internet) and food is just a little more expensive than on the coast, so I guess with $1000.00 you would have money to spare. On the coast you would spend less.
