England is a Third World Country

Dear Great Britain, we need to talk. You know I love you, even though I only know a little part of you, London, but I assume the same goes for the rest of you. Correct me if I’m wrong.

You are mostly wonderful, beautiful, functional and interesting, but you have one attribute that is very annoying. Most of your faucets, doorhandles and all sorts of knobs make no fucking sense!

England has mostly gotten rid of having the cold and hot water on different taps, but I’m not sure if they made it any better.

You never know whether you need to twist, turn, pull, push, tilt, swipe or do a combination of these when trying to make water come out of the faucet or shower. And don’t even try to find that perfect water temperature, waste of time and energy.

I consider myself smart and having a good sense of common knowledge, but I struggle with this! Every time I went to a different bathroom in London, it’s another puzzle to be solved! The gin and tonics don’t help by the way...

As a bonus, in most public bathrooms, the doors open towards inside the stall, so you have to squeeze in. And I’m tiny, I don’t know how bigger people handle it!

Am I alone in this or can someone relate!?

Sort:

Ha ha ha. Is it different in Finland then, is there a national standard for these things?!
Its what makes travel so interesting I suppose...

It is. Mixer taps are universal here. Bathtubs are not very common. Instead, people take showers. Bathroom floors and walls are waterproofed all the way up. Waterproofing is directly on top of the wall and floor structures. According to the current building code, the waterproofing has to be seamless. Everything else, plaster+tiles are on top of that layer. Few people use shower cabinets. Instead, shower curtains and walls are used to keep the water from spraying all over and there are floor drains. Practically every house has a sauna. Apartments built in the late 80's or later nearly always have a sauna with an electric stove.

Awesome... I have a barrel sauna at our house in Canada and I would not be without it.

Finnish saunas are usually inside the house and come with an electric stove. In case of a waterfront property, it is not uncommon for there to be a second sauna by the water.

Yes... we built a barrel sauna in the basement so we can use all year round here in Canada

Oh, I see. I guess you can build a barrel sauna in the basement, too. They are usually made for outdoor use.

Definitely interesting, but very annoying also! Most tabs in here are somewhat the same, lift the lever and turn left for hotter water, right for colder.

Whoa, look at that, its like living on a high-tech space station or something... :-0

Those shower taps look perfect.

I can not imagine anyone complaining if they had to “twist, turn, pull, push, tilt, swipe” or any other combination.

They might be a little dirty though.

I'm not sure what you mean 😇

It took me a bit of reflection, but I think I've figured it out.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Quite hillarious but fact presenting post. But can we use that alone to class them as a third world country? I live in a third world country, i can still say England has it better in my own opinion.

Above all, i find your post very intresting, do keep it up.

It’s a struggle!🤦‍♂️

So just being a burglar is no longer fun enough and you want to inspire others to be safecrackers?

Haha
I experience this sometimes here as well.
Can’t get the ideal water temp.
They need to change.
It is annoying

Hahaha! This made me laugh out loud! We Brits can get that perfect temperature every time without any energy loss :D

I am an architect and I must say the door opening inwards is a building regulations health and safety matter. Open it outwards and hit other users... I do agree that everything is built to the bare minimum though; we are a small but highly populated country so space is tight! You should see a new build housing site, we refer to them as large scale lego schemes haha!

left is cold. right for hot 😊 as for temperature, usually pick the setting between the numbers.. it's more accurate.
I agree this countrys not getting better in other fields, wont go into details, society needs to push forward, not back to draconian days.

Numbers, what numbers!? None of the tabs even had signs which way is cold and which is hot!

hmm they should have, unless they're not standard regulation models.. was there no marking of some sort ? generally left direction is for cold and rights hot here for taps, i guess they dont bother as most move the shower lever to middle which is about no5...

I'm the same way. I hate that it takes soo long just to figure it out.
