Big Settlement

in #travel5 years ago

Big Settlement is a village in the Veliky Ustyug district of the Vologda region. It is part of the Samotovinsky rural settlement. Until 2001, it was a member of the Luzhenga Village Council. The distance to the district center of Veliky Ustyug by road is 31 km, to the center of the municipality of Novator in a straight line - 22 km. The nearest settlements are Small Settlement, Kulatino, Stepanitsa. According to the 2002 census, the population is 4 people. At the moment, there are still permanent residents in the village.

This village is heard by local residents exactly as often as they pass by it - Big Settlement is located on the Vologda – Veliky Ustyug highway. I know this settlement from an early age...by name. But still was not inside it. It always happens when something is far and inaccessible, then it attracts more to those places than to where everything is nearby.

Big Settlement is divided into two parts by the river Luzhenga. There is no bridge between them.

In both parts of the village there are both abandoned and simply closed houses for the winter.

The streets of both parts are located approximately parallel to the highway.

This is the last village of the Luzhenga bush of villages, which I explored in late spring of 2019.

Perhaps I should also visit here in the spring, so that the story about the village bush would form a single image. But due to the easy accessibility, I constantly put off the trip.

And only in January 2020 I was able to go to this amazing place.

I will tell you this (and at the same time I will remind myself): where there is a river, you need to be in the snowless season!

Even the slightest sign of the presence of a water reservoir in the village creates a completely different, more comfortable and picturesque atmosphere. And when winter, then no rivers and lakes become visible.

Arrival in the second half of the village starts from the top of the hill along the forest belt.

This part of Big Settlement is much larger.

Abandoned store.

The most typical house for the Luzhenga bush of villages: an ordinary hut with a small mezzanine.

And I don’t know what is that. At first glance it seems like a remake. But if you look closely and think logically, it will become clear that this is an old painted house. Only the roof is repaired.

All houses are on a hillside.

The hill is the bank of the Luzhenga River.

In the village there are also real newly-built houses in which people live.

The place is very cozy due to the elevation difference, but it is difficult to fully feel the atmosphere because of the snow.

If it were a frosty sunny day and snowdrifts were above human growth, it would be better.

Winter is not a hindrance to photography. The main thing is that the weather be correct.

Ruined five-wall house. By its state, it is difficult to determine the degree of beauty of the architectural composition.

New houses still interfere with enjoying the spirit of antiquity.

And these houses are already on the other side, where I was at the very beginning. It seems to be close at hand, but there is river...

Luzhenga River - it seems to be a small river, but insidious. Throughout the year, the water level in it is high enough to be an obstacle to overcoming it.

The best place is near the river! It will be good here in spring and summer.

I do not like this feeling during traveling, when you understand that you are not hooked because of the wrong time of the year or the weather.

You understand very well that there is nothing to do with the place.

But the second time I don’t feel like here...
