The Miracle Of Renewal At Spirit Lake In Southern Washington

 Thousands of trees still remain on the surface of Spirit Lake North of Mount St. Helens 

When Mount Saint Helens blew, she changed the landscape around her. An enormous landslide took place, the largest since those things began to be recorded. This massive landslide reduced this spectacular lake to steamy  mud, nothing but a toxic pool sludge. Gone was the beautiful lake that had drawn so many visitors. 

Now, 38 years latter, she is coming back. Life is beginning to slowly reappear. In 1980, all life that needed to breath in any form, was killed instantly. Now, life is returning and the lake is being restored, by nature herself. Washington rains a lot, and that has worked in the lakes favor. Nature, in her benevolence, has been washing and restoring this body of water.

As you can see, there is still many trees floating on the lake. She is not as deep as she was and a whole lot smaller in size, but it is a marvelous start. If you enjoy seeing natures restoration, this is an awesome place to spend some time. There are trails that lead here out of the  Gifford Pinchot National Forest. There is so much to do in this national park. 

Why not pack your bag, and put on your hiking shoes? It is time to see the beauty of renewal.
