The lake is just east of the former Anno Sugar Factory 1970, you just walk 500 meters from downtown Cot Girek is Simpang Empat. The water is clean, clear and lots of fish inside. The lake keeps many springs, even in the dry season, the water remains full. in the Pineapple plant era, the VOC irrigated the gardens from the small ducts of the Lake, even today the water is still the main source of water for oil palm plantations.

Menarik, Disini Ada Danau Sendok Buatan Belanda
Ketika anda jalan-jalan jangan lupa perhatikan sekitar, siapa tahu ada sesuatu yang menarik, bertanyalah dan jangan diam, biar jalan-jalan anda menambah wawasan. Pepatah dulu "Bertanyalah ketika anda berjalan-jalan, jangan sampai anda sesat dan hanya melihat jalanan", hahaha.. ini jelas petuah bijak, tepatnya seperti ini "Bertanyalah, jangan sampai sesak dijalan".
Awal 1990 -an Saya pernah bermukim di Cot Girek, dataran perkebunan Kelapa Sawit yang dikelilingi bukit berada di Kecamatan Cot Girek, Kabupaten Aceh Utara, Aceh, Indonesia. Ini sebuah perkampungan yang dihuni multi etnis Indonesia sudah ada sejak penjajahan Belanda. Suku Jawa, Aceh, Batak, bahkan ada beberapa keluarga disana masih punya darah Belanda, Jerman. Sejak Aceh berkecamuk konfik pemberontakan sejak1998 sampai 2015, daerah itu tetap aman.

Ya, Konon kata sesepuh disitu, Cot Girek adalah bekas perkebunan Nanas , ada sejak kolonial Belanda membangun kerajaan bisnis Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) di Nusantara, tapi Cot Girek dijadikan ladang buah sejak awal abad ke 19. Buahnya dijadikan makanan, daunnya diproduksi jadi serat benang.
Bila sekarang anda datang ke Cot Girek, sisa-sisa kejayaan perusahaan kongsi dagang Belanda itu masih terlihat rapi terjaga, terutama di kampung Cot Girek Lama, arah selatan dari bekas Pabrik Gula yang pernah masyur se-antero Asian Tenggara di tahun 1970 -an. Kini bangunan-bangunan berarsitektur Eropa beheula itu sudah dihuni oleh warga yang bekerja di pabrik kepala Sawit milik Pemerintah PT Perkebunan Nusantara 1 (PTPN-1). tidak hanya hunian, gudang-gudang tempat menyimpan buah Nanas juga masih ada.
Walau berada di daerah sedikit tinggi, warga Cot Girek tidak pernah kekurangan air bersih, kenapa bisa ? Ternyata eh ternyata, disana ada sebuah danau , orang lokal menyebutnya Dam , dari sanalah sumber air bagi seluruh masyarakat. Dam pengertiannya, danau buatan manusia, jadi bukan terbentuk karena fenomena alam.

Letaknya tepat disebelah timur bekas Pabrik Gula Anno 1970, anda cukup berjalan 500 meter dari pusat kota Cot Girek yaitu Simpang Empat. Airnya bersih, jernih dan banyak ikan didalamnya. Bila diperhatikan secara jeli, area sumber air seluas 100 hektar lebih itu mirip seperti Sendok, orang sekitar menyebutnya dengan Danau Sendok.
Danau itu menyimpan banyak menyimpan mata air, sekalipun musim kemarau, airnya tetap penuh. pada era pabrik Nanas, VOC mengairi kebun dari saluran-saluran kecil berhulu dari Danau itu, bahkan sampai saat ini airnya juga masih dijadikan sumber air utama untuk perkebunan sawit.
Sayangnya, kawasan itu tidak tereksplor dengan baik, sehingga tidak banyak yang tahu, hanya orang-orang lokal yang sering datang, ada yang sekedar melepas lelah, ada yang menyalurkan hobi memancing ada juga yang membawa pasangan, tapi awas, jangan sampai bermesum, karena disitu ada penjaganya, hehehe.
Saya sengaja membahas danau ini, supaya teman-teman Steemian tertarik untuk berkunjung ke danau Sendok itu. Tak salah bila mencoba berlibur beda di pekan depan, tidak hanya ke laut saja, atau ke air terjun. Bila berkenan datang, sekalipun siang anda sekeluarga dijamin tidak kepanasan, ada banyak pohon bambu disekitar danau jadi tempat berteduh. Tapi jangan harap ada pedagang minuman atau makanan ringan, karena kawasan itu lumayan sepi dihari-hari sibuk.
Saran saya bawalah bekal biar anda tidak minum air danau untuk sekedar melepas dahaga. hehehe.
