Visit with me! #28 - Cadaqués (Catalonia, Spain)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hi my steemians friends!

As you know, I live in Barcelona for a few months. I like big cities because there is always something to do or see but I also like the villages near the sea. I often go on the Costa Brava to spend a few days and see friends. I take the opportunity to do the tourist and visit all the small villages near the sea. Today I propose a virtual tour of a cute seaside village in Costa Brava.

Are you ready for a virtual tour of Cadaqués ???

Let's go my friends!

Cadaqués is a seaside village in the comarca Alt Empordà as Escala, Rosas or Estartit. It's on a bay in the middle of the peninsula of Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean's Costa Brava just a two-and-a-quarter-hour drive from Barcelona. We made the drive yesterday but we should have taken the bike because parking spaces are rare in Cadaqués ^^. On the way, I stopped to take some pictures of the bay of Rosas. You can admire the breathtaking view from the top of this mountain ...

As you can see in these photos the vegetation is very varied with olive trees, cactus, aroma plants and all kinds of flowers It puts some color in the decor and I love it!

In the distance, you can hear the bells of cows frolicking in the mountains. I tried to approach them to give them some herbs to eat but they are fearful so I did not insist ^^.

Cadaqués is a city that clearly displays its desire to become an independent state of Spain. You can see banners and posters promoting independence everywhere in the city.

After having parked the car very high in the village, we went down to get a squeezed orange juice and ice cream to cool off a bit before the visit.
Here is the view from the terrace of the cafe, nice right?

Cadaqués has about 2,600 inhabitants, but up to ten times more people can live there during the summer tourist season! Tourists come from far and wide to discover this city rich in its history of art.

The most prominent person in the city was undoubtedly Salvador Dalí who chose Port Lligat (a bay stuck to the city), to make it his place of residence. This house is currently a museum that can be visited.

The style of the houses is particular because all the facades are painted in white and the blue shutters. Here is one of the most beautiful house in the city.

There are also sometimes mosaics reminiscent of Gaudi's work. We can feel the Arab and Andalusian influence on these mosaics.

Cadaqués to its culinary specialty which is a pastry called "Taps Dolços de Cadaqués". It is a cake made of sugar, eggs and flour and a little icing sugar on top and it's shaped like a cava bottle cap ^^.

It's light and delicious!

Cadaqués is a charming village with small streets that go up and gives you access to an incredible view of the city. If you want to go there, just go up the streets to the church of Cadaqués and you will have a superb panorama!

This is the end of this virtual tour of Cadaqués and I am happy to have shared it with you.
You can not come to Costa Brava without visiting this cute village my Steemians friends!
