When I lived abroad, I was fortunate to live only about two hours away by train. Córdoba has so many interesting elements and so much fascinating history that it's impossible to see in a weekend. The city was the capital of the Islamic caliphate under the Moorish rule and was considered perhaps the cultural center of Europe the city's peak.
