Drone trip to Koh Nang Yuan, Thailand

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

The Tourism Authority of Thailand, also known as 'TAT' invited me to come shoot some video of some southern islands, notably Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Below are some of the photos I took.

Koh Nang Yuan is a very beautiful island just a few hundred meters off the coast of Koh Tao, you could quite easily kayak here. Flying a drone here is prohibited, but we applied for permission first.

From this angle you can see tiny people standing on the viewpoint.

Here is a slightly under exposed picture from further back, showing the whole island.

Here's what it looks like from the viewpoint.

From the beach you walk around this wooden pathway to reach an opening in the trees to climb to the viewpoint.

Finally, a nice shot of the sandbar. That's Koh Tao in the background.

Breathtaking views! What drone did you use? I got a Mavic Pro myself. Please check out my blog and follow if you like!

Wow, those pics are top class, @freelancestories! Keep it up ;)

Thanks very much!

I absolutely love drone footage and you have captured some incredible shots here. I recently made this post which shares some footage a friend of might captured and edited for a little promotional video for our home town. I'd really appreciate it if you gave it a look, and I think it would definitely inspire you.

All the best!

Just left a comment on the post. Thanks for the link!

why is droning prohibited? national park rules or ?
Lucky u were able to- for other visitors go get ready for take off- is there anything to warn them that they cant fly?

Yeh drones are prohibited in all national parks I think. You have to apply for permission. I got fined in the Similan Islands for it - only 1000b though, was worth it for the footage.

Some places do have signs, some don't, you just get ambushed by some park officers ready with a pen and paper to write you a fine lol

Yeah i heard about this. stricter in the 'touristy' places but legally speaking I am not sure if park rangers are at liberty to do 'on the spot' fines (maybe im wrong)- but this is Thailand and sometimes a 'tip' can help both!

Yeh I'm not too sure. I'm sure people higher up are in on it too. Usually they just tell you to stop flying.

Absolutely Stunning!!!!

I must go.
This looks absolutely amazing! haha
Great Photographs

Brilliant. That sandbar is massive. Was tiny when I was there
