My Favourite Places In Vienna

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hey there fellow steemians!

I thought it would be nice if I would share some of my favourite places in Vienna with you. I live in this city for about 12 years now and I really fell in love with it. There is always something going on and for a big city it is still small enough to walk from some of these places to another in a couple of minutes. So without further ado, let's get into it!

1. Naschmarkt

Naschmarkt is one of the biggest markets in Vienna. You can get a lot of different great food there, but also the many restaurants and bars are top notch. You will see a lot of hipsters there so if that isn't really your thing then you might prefer the Brunnenmarkt. It isn't located as central as the Naschmarkt but you can still reach it very quickly with the subway.

2. Museumsquartier

You can reach the Museumsquartier by foot in about 10 minutes from the Naschmarkt. So if you are finished buying your delicious food and had a nice drink you might want to head there. You can just relax or visit one of the museums that is located there. I hang out there very often, mainly because I live in the vicinity, but also because I just think it is a really relaxed place where you can just enjoy the day.

3. Schönbrunn

This one needs probably no introduction. It is one of the most beautiful sites in europe and a lot of tourists visit this place anyway when they are travelling to Vienna. But also a lot of locals enjoy the park that is attached to it or take a stroll through the zoo, which is the oldest one in the world. There are also a couple of really good restaurants in the area and from time to time you can visit a classical concert in the park, which I highly recommend.

4. Würstelstand

I believe if you visit Vienna you have to enjoy a Bratwurst at a Würstelstand. You can find them everywhere and the food is just delicious. Of course it isn't the most healthy thing in the world, but I believe when you are enjoying your holidays you shouldn't worry too much about your diet. I eat at a Würstelstand about 5 times a week and I won't change that in the near future, so if you hit one up, maybe I will be standing next to you.

5. Donauinsel

If you visit Vienna in summer you might want to head to one of the beaches on the Donauinsel. It is a huge area where you can easily find a place where you will feel like you are completely alone and not in the middle of a european capital city. You can reach Donauinsel in about 20 minutes if you take the subway from the city center, so it really is close by if you feel like you need to jump in the refreshing Donau.

6. Oldtown

Vienna is just beautiful! Sometimes you will feel like you are walking through an open-air museum when you stroll through the narrow streets of the city. You can visit the opera house, the parliament, the Stephansdom and so many places like that within a couple of minutes. If you feel too exhausted, just find a nice little coffee house and grab a cup of delicious coffee with some sweets. I always take a walk through the city center if I have some free time and just enjoy the vibe this city gives.

And that's already it. I hope you like some of the places I have mentioned and if you visit Vienna, maybe you will check one of them out. If you feel like I missed something important or you think some of the places I shared are garbage, please let me know in the comment section below!

Have a great day!
