This is located damn near dead center of the downtown area and is one of the more heavily traveled areas by tourists on foot. I wouldn't say that their menu is terribly inventive aside from a few items, but for the most part it is one of the better mid-range restaurants in the city center.

Don't let that photo give you the wrong impression. This place is normally packed and has a waiting list in order to get in there, especially during peak lunch and dinner hours. It is rated as being in the top 10% of all restaurants in Chiang Mai and to me I feel as though that is kind of driven by the wine menu because the food menu was nothing particularly special. To be fair this is a commonly recurring theme in all the Thai hybrid restaurants I have been to in this, and really any other city in Thailand. There is only so much differentiation that can be done.
Noodles like Pad Siew, Pad Thai, and Rad Naa are all on offer and the presentation is ok, nothing special. As I have mentioned many times before I go for taste over presentation any day because I don't like the idea of someone touching what I am about to eat.
I think the major part of the appeal is the fantastic attitude of the owners and staff, who speak a high level of English and seem to have been embraced by the local community, of which, I am not really yet a part of.
I do find it incredibly funny that the name of the place is the "Writers Club" but they have missed out on a very important piece of punctuation in the naming of their restaurant. I want to open "Punctuation Club & Beer Bar" across the street and spell the name wrong.

That picture with the sign in English looks like it could be anywhere in the western world, rather than Thailand. Well, with the grammar issue maybe it could be anywhere in the western world in a small town off the beaten path :)
I never thought about someone touching my food to arrange it. And chefs don't typically wear gloves, do they? Dang it, now that seed has been planted in my head...
yes, watch a cooking show. The places with extra care put into presentation put their hands all over your grub. I am sure in fancy places they have very high hygiene systems, but everyone rubs their nose from time to time. yuck.
So it could've been "writer's club" instead of "writers club" really that's actually good, one thing I noticed in your descriptions is that the restaurant seems to be better than it looks or seems and the servicing is topnotch, something it's better to have quality than hype really and I'll generally say it's a decent place
or Writers' ... but there definitely is ownership implied and therefore an apostrophe is necessary.
It is certainly very pleasant to travel from one city to another in Thailand even though the restorant is still standard and sometimes does not match what you want. Hopping you enjoy your travel, Sir.
Yay! Thailand is my dream destination one day! I'd love to be able to visit this wonderful place! The meal looks lovely.
That is pretty interesting about the name. I also though this was going to be some kind of classy coffee house type joint where poets are writing and performing their latest pieces and stuff like that. It is definitely not what I would have expected based on the name. The food looks pretty decent. That is really cool about the owners. I guess that would by my hope if I were to pick up and move to a different country... that the locals would see me as one of their own over time.
