On this trip I stayed in Jaco Tranquillo, a 2 bedroom beachfront condo in Jaco Beach. This condo was only $1200/month with a $1200 deposit. That works out to about $40/night for a 5 star apartment. I have visited Costa Rica many different times and through my travels I have learned the best way to stay for an extended vacation.
My typical trip is 6-8 weeks so it is crucial for me to find budget tricks to afford the longer stay. I have both backpacked the country staying in hostels ($15/night) and rented luxury units ($400/night). If you talk to real estate agents in whatever town you decide to go, they will help you find the perfect condo. The trick is to not reserve anything prior to your trip and tell the agent you plan on staying long term. You have to be firm that you do not want to sign a 6 month lease. You can usually find beautiful condos with a month to month lease and a reasonable deposit.
This condo was great and right on the beach. I could walk to downtown within a couple blocks for the wild party's and casinos. Jaco Beach is a party town with a bad reputation. I have been there a few other times and would agree that it is not Costa Ricas most beautiful town. It is like the Sin City of Costa ;) what happens in Jaco stays in Jaco!
