Another use for cows - Nepal, Mt Everest Base camp trek

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

While trekking in Nepal, we stopped at a small village on the way back from Mt Everest base camp.

I love just sitting around watching local people go about their business, and just see what they do and get up to.

On this day, we got speaking to a local boy on his way home from school.  Although he didn't seem to speak any English, and us about the same amount of Nepalese, we all had a good laugh.

I had a pen in my bag, which I was happy to give to him.

My partner and I had been commenting upon how sad it was that the cows were reduced to foraging in the village garbage piles for their food, but this is life in Nepal and regions.  Being from New Zealand, this is unheard of with our lush pastures, but in the rocky Himalayas, considered normal I guess.

Anyway, what happens next was surprising :-)

The boys begins to DRAW on the cows head, colouring in the white patch to a bright green with our highlighter pen.

We just laughed, as everyone was having a great time, and no harm was done.

This is why I love to travel, as you never quite know what is going to happen, or when.

I'm new to Steemit,   and I am looking for somewhere to share gems like this in my spare time,  so if this is the type of story fellow Steemians like to hear, please comment and upvote.

If you people like it, I will make time and do a pictorial series, as I figure out how to get going here.

Cheers and Namaste

Thanks for the great post @gregauckland

Thanks Kim, but for some reason the photo has not been displayed.
It really is a cute gem, and main reason for the post, so I am still trying to resolve this issue.

I think I now have it sussed about the picture thing
