For some, yes, buying used items can be a little off-putting.
I mean, who wouldn't want the experience of getting that shiny, uncreased, sparkly clean, and unmistakable new scent that comes from just-bought items right? (Definitely me!)
But that's not to say I'm also not a sucker for bargain finds at second hand shops. This particular shop in fact:
2nd Street is chain of shops in Japan that buy and sell second hand items. With the increased awareness for being eco-friendly and the amount of waste people generate from throwing away used but still good-condition items, there is definitely a rise in the re-use market.
What makes this shop particularly appealing to me is how everything is just so clean and well-arranged. Unlike most second hand shops where you'd likely come across dusty, broken items on disorganized piles, 2nd Street has none of that.
Their items - ranging from clothes, to toys, to designer bags, to kitchenware and even hobby items - are all individually cleaned and sanitized. They are also individually tagged with their own barcodes and price tags just like a normal department store.
Some of the items I keep coming back to are their collection of ceramic dinnerwares that are just too much of a bargain to pass!
*This exquisite tea cup - that comes in a set of 6 plus a teapot - only costs ¥950 or about $8)
A set of oriental ceramic rice bowls for only ¥1100 of about $9.50
2nd Street has a website that lists some of their higher-end products like furniture and designer items and information on which branch the item is available for pickup. And because they restock every season on all their stores, lack of choices is not something you'd have to worry about.
Here are some of the other items that they sell here in Anan:
Laptops, cellphones, appliances and other electronics
Designer bags, wallets, kitchenware and watches (not pictured)
Strollers (prams), toys and other collectibles and hobby items
And of course, aisles and aisles of clothes and shoes for men and women
2nd Street also buys used items. You can just walk in on their store with your items and they will upraise them on the spot. For bulkier items such as furnitures and appliances, they can go to your house for free to take a look at them.
Buying pre-loved items may not be everyone's cup of tea, but to those who can find the value in finding unique treasures for bargain prices, this store is definitely a must-visit!
Hey I came here from your art post :)
I guess this isn't where you got your art supplies from haha?
They look too new!
I recently sold a lot of my things to a pawn shop quite similar I guess?
Did you buy anything?
Have an upboat
Love from tooting
Who wants other people's clutter?
Me! Lol
Seriously though, as what I mentioned in my post, it may not be everyone's cup of tea.
I guess it's just how you see it. It may be other people's clutter but if you find a unique item that you'd have some use for - like an antique vase that will perfectly match your collection. Why not right?
Cheers!
That is very cool and i cam get behind it. Something like that tea set is a good deal. I often shop at thrift stores myself.
That's so true. You'd have to pay a lot for a set like these from a department store!
I can imagine. Don't think we have second hand stores that nice around here, lol.
Second-hand stores are the best. You have to work harder to find good items, but you can find some real treasures for cheap.
I completely agree! I love the thrill of finding one-of-kind items in this shop 😊
