Hello Hive community!
Today I'd like to share with you a visit that left a deep impression on me and that I really enjoyed: my visit to Saint Peter's Cathedral in Rabat. Located in the heart of the city, just a few steps from the famous Place Joulan, this cathedral is much more than just a religious building. It's also a historic site with unique and magnificent architecture!
As I said in my previous post, I organised a trip to Rabat yesterday and arrived around 11am. Walking through the busy streets of Rabat, I quickly came across the Place Joulan. This square, known for its liveliness and its surrounding cafés and restaurants, is home to an architectural gem: St Peter's Cathedral. It's impossible to miss, with its two parallel towers rising majestically into the sky. It's as if they're watching over the city with great elegance!
As I approached, I took a moment to observe the exterior façade opposite. The two towers are perfectly symmetrical, giving the whole a solemn appearance and the bright white walls are a perfect match for the blue sky !
For over a century, the Church in Morocco has played an essential role, particularly in the field of education. Through its various institutions, it has left its mark on the country's history. Jesuit schools, for example, have trained several generations of Moroccan executives, contributing to the emergence of an intellectual and professional elite.
But the history of the Christian presence in Morocco does not end there. Christians have been practising their faith freely in the Kingdom for over two thousand years. This longevity bears witness to a profound respect for the values of dialogue and tolerance. Over the centuries, Morocco has become an exemplary model of religious coexistence, where different beliefs coexist in remarkable harmony.
This unique way of living together reflects a Moroccan tradition deeply rooted in openness and mutual respect, making the country a symbol of cultural and religious diversity in the world.
When I arrived, a woman greeted me at the entrance. With her warm smile and gentle ‘Hello’, she immediately put me at ease, as this was the first time I'd been in a cathedral. I asked her if I was allowed to take photos and she said yes, of course. Her kindness touched me, and I felt welcome, as if the cathedral itself was opening its arms to me. We exchanged a few words, and she wished me a wonderful visit with a kindness that I won't forget.
The interior of the cathedral is simply magnificent. The high ceilings, the coloured stained glass windows that filter the light and create a play of shadows and colours on the walls, everything is designed to uplift the spirit. The photos on the walls tell the story of Jesus, and under each photo is a description in French. The place is remarkably well maintained, with every detail testifying to the care and respect given to this space.
What struck me was the soft music that resonated inside. A calm, almost spiritual melody. I sat down on a bench to enjoy the moment, closing my eyes to better feel the serenity. It was like a break in my day, a moment of calm that helped me to refocus.
Even though I was only there as a visitor, I felt the spiritual dimension of the place. There weren't many people there that day, and the calm added to the soothing atmosphere.
As I left the cathedral, I felt light and peaceful and full of energy to continue my discoveries in Rabat for the rest of the day.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed this visit and the photos, and that they inspired you to discover this place for yourself. See you soon for another post about another place as wonderful as this cathedral in the city of Rabat!
