In recent years, Norway has repeatedly been ranked as "the best country to live in" by the United Nations Human Development Report. This annual ranking is based largely on average levels of education and income, combined with life expectancy.
Norway has one of the best welfare systems in the world, making sure that people who are unemployed or unable to work are given support so that they can lead dignified lives. Norway also has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
This is totally true. But, what makes this country interesting?
1. Norway knighted a king penguin
who’s the boss?!
When I read this information, It took a lot of time to convince myself that this is true. 😂
A resident king penguin, Sir Nils Olav, is an honorary member of the King of Norway’s guard and inspects the soldiers when they visit the Scottish capital. One of a colony and knighted in 2008, the penguin has now been given the new title of Brig Sir Nils Olav.
During the ceremony, Sir Nils paraded along the zoo’s penguin walk, while inspecting the guard.

2.Coffee
Norwegians head to their cabins, to the forest, mountain or fjord, and enjoy alfresco meals topped off with brown potion prepared over an open fire.
The first recorded mention of coffee in Norway was in 1694.
Between 1780 and 1795, an average of 200-350 grams of green, unroasted coffee per person was imported every year (population at the time: around 750,000). A 2013 report by Euromonitor found that Norwegians get through 7.2 kilograms of coffee per person per year, making them the world's biggest consumers of the dark stuff after their neighbors in Finland.
But if you are alcohol lover, you won’t like this reasons.
A period of prohibition, followed by high alcohol prices that remain today, maintained coffee status as the social drink of choice for many.
3. Fjords
Norway has the highest concentration of fjords in the world, and nowhere on earth are there more fjords than in Fjord Norway. Formed when the glaciers retreated, and seawater flooded the U-shaped valleys, the fjords have made Norway famous. National Geographic Magazine has named the fjords "the best unspoiled travel destinations in the world". And the respected American newspaper Chicago Tribune has included Norway's fjords on its list Seven Wonders of Nature.

4. Oil and gas production
Norway has the highest gasoline prices in the world, even though Norway is one of the biggest exporters of oil in the world.

Norway’s Draugen oil platform
Draugen is an oil field in the Norwegian Sea at a sea depth of 250 meters. The field has been developed with a concrete fixed facility and integrated topside. Stabilized oil is stored in tanks at the base of the facility. Two pipelines are used to transport the oil from the facility to a floating loading buoy.
(I am studying Civil Engineering, so I am a little bit amazed by this object 😊 )
5. The Nobel Peace Prize
During the past 30 years, Norway has become synonymous with peace brokering. Indeed, its peacemaking efforts picked up speed after the Cold War, with the Scandinavian country taking the lead in ending armed conflicts of different intensities in the Middle East, Central America and Africa throughout the 1990s.
Alfred Nobel (he was a Swedish) never disclosed why he didn't give the task of awarding the Peace Prize to a Swedish body.
There are, of course, more reasons why is Norway so interesting. But, these five are my favorites

I'm a Norwegian! Norway is a nice country, and all of it's inhabitants (me included) are grateful for living here. Come visit our fjords and mountains!
I have some good friends there. So, they were inspiration for my post. I am sure I will visit it someday. And when I do, I will make even better post for Norway. :)
