After I reported in my last post about the green north of La Palma, I would like to continue the journey to the south today. We started again in Santa Cruz de La Palma, because our apartment was near the island's capital. We drove above the coast and reached a small place where you obviously prepared for a party. The streets were adorned with ornaments of flowers and herbs, and some pictures were made on large metal sculptures using this technique.
After looking around for a while, we drove on towards the southern cape.
The further south you go, the more the landscape changes. It goes into a dry volcanic landscape with little vegetation. Directly on the southern cape is a lighthouse. Here one wins in salines an excellent table salt.
This landscape stands in stark contrast to the north of the island and it is simply fascinating to find such differences in climate and vegetation in such a small space. There are several hiking trails on and along the craters. We also went on one of the routes along the craters. Here are a few impressions from this tour.
The craters are different in age and are therefore partly populated by plants again. The different coloration comes from the metals and minerals contained in the lava flow. The last outbreak was in 1971, and 2 people died as a result of the accumulation of CO2 gases in subsidence.
From one of the craters you can already overlook the west coast of the island. The slopes have been cultivated again and you grow wine among other things.
And that was it already, our tour through the south of the island of La Palma. I hope you liked it. In my next post I will report on the really spectacular island center.

wow there is something beautiful about those volcanic beaches, shores and the volcanos themselves. I guess cuz it's because they stand out so much from all the regular landscapes: white sand beaches, and rocky shores. Amazing gallery again. Cheers - keep those delicious posts coming!
Thank you @travellit.
What a contrast from the north to the south!
I'm interested in what type of festival they were having when they had those beautiful decorations with herbs and flowers?
Are any of those volcanoes active?
Thanks for sharing - I love to learn about different parts of the world!
Thank you @porters. It's on several christian festivals. The island is still active. They have earthquakes and the last eruption was in 1971 and they are awaiting the next ones.
Excellent photography, those mountains seem so bare compared to what I am surrounded by here in Victoria Canada 🇨🇦

Thanks a lot @d00k13. The mountains in the south are bare but in the north it's different as you can see in my first post about this island.

Many thanks to this awesome community.
Wow! So I am correct about the weather on the other side, as we have the same thing over here. One side of the mountain is Mediterranean climate and we grow apples and on the other side no apple will grow as it is much warmer.
This is a great series of posts and your photography is excellent.
I can't wait to see the center of the island!
Blessings!
Thank you so much, my friend. I much appreciated.
The island of La Palma has the characteristics of all the other Canary Islands on a single island. That's why it's so beautiful, it has volcanic places like Lanzarote and forests like Tenerife.
That's why they call it the beautiful island. If you liked that island, I invite you to visit the rest Canary Island. 😊

Yes, it's all in one of the Canary Islands. I have already visited others. I also loved Lanzarote and Teneriffa. And my wife was on La Gomera before.
Awesome tour and fantastic photos!
Thank you so much, @rwedegis.
A wonderful second part to your La Palma post, @ikarus56 :) Those plants regrowing in the crater is almost unreal! Nature has such a force to rebalance itself, doesnt it? :)
The photos are absolutely lovely <3 I really enjoyed this post !
Many thanks, @veryspider. Much appreciated.
The views are just so breathtaking!
Thank you so much, @roselifecoach.
Your are most welcome @ikarus56!
Every time I scroll through one of your posts, I feel like I've taken a mini vacation! Thanks so much for sharing these gorgeous shots - it's so amazing to see the contrast in the landscape within a relatively short distance.
Thank you so much @traciyork. But it's this amazing island that delivers these spectacular motives.

Want to have your post on the map too?
Thank you.
That is an amazing variety of geography. Almost seems like it couldn't be located very close together.
Yes, @toddrjohnson. It's a cosmos in a small place.
Awesome tour from the volcanic landscape to the beaches. Volcanic soil but still you see those patches of greenery, life always finds a way. I am interested how they collect the salt. Here in our country saltwater is dried up on salt beds then collected once water has evaporated.
