The adventures of The Yacht Guy
Hi, My name is John and i'm The Yacht Guy, Follow me and my adventures as I travel around the world with 27 other crew on board an 88 meter luxury super yacht
20 years old, South African born and raised, I set off on what is now his career as a navigational officer on Luxury private yachts.
This is a diary of some of the highlights leading up to where he is now.
Here we go...
Cave diving in Tulum
I will be adding a thread with only diving pics if there is enough interest.
As one could imagine, Diving is a big part of any Yachtie's life
Mid Atlantic Sunrise
Every morning as part of my watch (4 - 8 am/pm) I do compass checks using celestial navigation method called Amplitude.
Position by Sextant
Even 2 weeks at sea gets quite boring, so for fun we see if we can beat the GPS and fix our position the old fashion way...Celestial navigation at its best.
Afternoon drinks in Cape Town with.
If you have not been to South Africa yet, Do your self a favor while the Rand is weak and go, it is incredible!
Sunrise in Tahiti, French Polynesia
One of my ultimate sunrises ever, I wish I could fully capture that sunrise
Tahiti is one of the most beautiful islands with some bizarre cultures, worth having a read..
Motor Yacht Infinity in Fort Lauderdale Florida
Stunning Super yacht, 88.9m long, here we can see the crew prepping to Launch their "toys" for the rest of us, 2 million euro tenders.
Motor Yacht 7 Seas
Steven Spielberg's baby, Oceanco Built (Same as Infinity) standing by for its next trip to Bahamas.
Before
Infinity in for some Yard work
Once a year these Super Yachts go in for some down time where contractors and crew get all the out of season work done
Here we can see the relatively fast progression of scaffolding being raised
After
Storm brewing
Every once in a while we find our selves in a hairy situation, but the 'Ol Gal gets us there safely
Midnight Teak scrubbing
One of the boys hard at work, Scrubbing teak is no joke!
6 AM, Navigational watch, off the coast of Australia.
One of the harder but most spectacular bridge watch times as you get all the beautiful sunrises
For those interested, Screens from left to right: Radar S-Band, Environmental Conditions, ECDIS, Engines, Radar X-Band..
The controls on the dashboard: 2x Autopilots, Gyro repeater x 2, Magnetic compass repeater x1, Rudder angle indicators, Steering pumps, Horn, lights, VHF radios, Thrusters fore and aft, 3 types of helm controls, Stabilizers, Spotlights, FLIR camera controls...and some...
Just a few of the instruments to maintain safe navigation.
Another sunrise
These never get old
Some of the boys sanding teak while underway
Typically done once every 2 - 4 years to level out the caulking as it would stand proud and uneven
Offshore bunker station in Freeport Bahamas
Not all the commercial side is horrible, there are some really amazing places in the world, despite the pic, Freeport is definitely not one of those for crew
Holiday with the Mrs in Lisbon
What a cool city!! always good to get some down time with those we love, life at sea is amazing but it is hard! one realizes living life to the fullest with the ones you love is extremely important
I Hope everyone enjoyed today's episode of The Yacht Guy :)

Hey Patrick, I have a question i was hoping you could answer, if I edit this page, will it jump back to the top of new posts? or should i rather create a new page?? i have so much content and would like to update it every couple days if not every day, but hardly any point since i only have a few followers at the moment and my content wouldnt reach anyone if its not popping up at the top of the lists.
Hope all is well
If you (edit) the page it won't jump back to the top of the news posts. If you want the post to appear on top again, you'll need to create a new one. I think that the only way to get readers to your post is engaging a lot with the community. For example, if you wanna gain more followers try to like and comment another people posts. (Don't care in the beginning about how much people seeing your post) Try to post daily and readers will find you after a while. (few weeks - months) depends on your content. I'm not an expert. But I Wish you all the best and I'm sure if you stay active you will get a lot more readers!!
Thank you so much!
It was more a curious question but who doesn't like to see that their work is appreciated :) thanks again!
Very nice series.
Thank you Team101
Im sure you saw the question in the above post, but i was hoping you could maybe help too?

@infidel100 Followed, Resteemed, rewarded at 100% and Tweeted. Hope this all helps. Have you joined steemit.chat yet? Google it and sign up. Loads of channels to help you gets eyes...which posts like this deserve. Btw, I'm a pro scuba instructor (PADI 648965) and First Response Instructor too. Ever need a diving guide or instructor; give me a shoutout! (Lvl 2 RYA powerboat licence)My friend @steemtalk brought me here. Peace out!
P.S. are you aware you have chosen not to receive rewards on your latest post? In my experience, best option is to choose 50/50 Steem dollar and Power up. Also, vote for yourself by ticking the box if you haven't already. Hope this helps. Read your comments... hard at the start to get noticed by many. Play the long game. Develop a strategy of regular posting, commenting, following and contributing to the community. It won't be long till those rewards come rolling in. Best of luck ;)
WOW, what an amazing reply, best i've had!!
Thank you so much! I will definitely have a look at the 50 50 option !
Nice page too btw! followed!
I will definitely be keeping your contact as we do need instructors and masters from time to time. The powerboat is a very good bonus too. Have you got STCW?
Thanks for the tips, much appreciated!

Your life was my dream at one point. I went to Chapman seamanship school and all my classmates work similar to what you do. I wish I had dedicated the time it needs to make it my reality. Steem on. Thanks for sharing.
