Why do we risk our lives and climb mountain’s? Though there are many reasons to it, the one which stands out from all other reasons is the VIEW FROM THE TOP and feeling of standing on top of a mountain after a grueling climb.
The one incident that comes to my mind right now is the first time I climbed a real peak in the Himalayas mountain range. I fell on my knees just 30 meters away from summit, unable to find the energy to take one more step. I was constantly staring at the summit which was so close, yet it seemed like an impossible distance to climb. I was gasping for air and I could feel the edges of my lungs. I told myself that ‘This is where you wanted to be and this is what you wanted to do. Now you are living it, so don’t you dare give up. Get up and walk those last few meters’. I got up and started walking; one tiring step at a time. The summit got closer and closer and came the time when there was no more land to be climbed. I was standing on top of the mountain I had been obsessing over since last three years, the mountain which was a reason for so many of my sleepless nights, and the mountain which almost claimed my life. I bowed down on the summit; I saw the view which I had only seen in pictures and videos since last three years, tears rolled down my cheeks and I could feel my soul satisfied and THIS is the feeling I live for and I am getting more and more addicted to it with every mountain I climb
Just like in any other walk of life, it takes hard work, sacrifice and determination to reach where you want to and once you have arrived there, the feeling is unmatched and it motivates you to do more! Same is the case in mountaineering. A lot of work and sacrifice goes into climbing a mountain and once you are on the top, it all seems worth it!
