When I lived in NY my sons, @lokii and @bmjman2410, would go to the Adirondack mountains every year for a week long vacation. It was good. There was no noise pollution, no light pollution, and no worries. One full week with the three of us, friends who joined, my other two children Aaron and Abi (not steemians. Yet.), and the beautiful great outdoors. You couldn't even call out unless you were on the beach or in the middle of the lake in a canoe. Believe me, the four mile hike was worth the serenity.
Every year we would choose a project to accomplish while there. One year we put sails on the canoes. Another we built a tree deck. On the year I'm going to share with you here we built a longbow. It's all fun and games till somebody loses a nipple.
The year was 2012 and we hiked the four miles in hoping to get one of the two lean-to's on either side of the lake. Fate smiled on us that year and we secured the first one we landed at. We set up the tents, arranged who was where - the lean-to only slept 4 or 5 comfortably, and gathered the wood we would need for the night.
Forward.
Around the third day we were all sitting around and decided that we were going to try to build a functional longbow. We found a good piece of wood and managed to build a pretty decent one, albeit we used nylon twine instead of vine for the pull back.
We fashioned arrows out of sapling branches and it worked fairly well except we know nothing of building an accurate arrow.
Anyway.
My son Matt, @lokii, drew the bow back to fire and the nylon string somehow looped into his nipple ring, unbeknownst to him. A friend of ours, Kobe, watched this happen and said nothing! @lokii let loose the string and let out a yelp!! The nipple ring was ripped out of his body, taking his nipple with it!!
I know that probably doesn't seem very funny but when you have a bunch of people doing the primal thing in the middle of nowhere, trust me, it was rolling on the ground hilarious.
Matt still only has one nipple ring. There isn't enough nipple on the other side to put one in. We wrote in the log that year that if anyone found the nipple please return it. There was no correspondence.
Those mountains, those people, and those times are some of my fondest memories. I'm hoping we get at least one more chance to 'get away from it all' in the unspoiled majesty that is Terrell Pond in the Adirondacks
Nice initiative bro... I am happy to see u doing this... all d best
@japhofin8or
I'll keep my eye out for nipples
Thanks. He would appreciate having 2 again. :)
Ouch!! that must have hurt. Sorry Matt!!
Don't be too sorry. If you were there you would have laughed hard with the rest of us. It's the odd little things that make the best stories.
