The Wilsons Promontory is a peninsula that forms the southernmost part of the Australian mainland and is located in the state of Victoria . Walking is the best way to explore the natural sanctuary of Wilsons Promontory . A day in Wilsons Promontory National Park: Mount Oberon, Squeaky Beach, Tidal River / Norman Beach . If you love bushwalking and wildlife then the "Prom", is the place to go . Wilsons Promontory National Park or the 'Prom' as the locals call it, is the southernmost tip of the Australian mainland . It is a three hour drive from Melbourne and Victoria's oldest, and number one National Park . The park covers over 50,000 hectares and includes pristine beaches, rain forests, huge granite mountains and rugged offshore islands . As far as accommodation is concerned you will have to make a choice . If you want to stay centrally located you are probably better off stayig in one of the Tidal River cabins or if you love camping Tidal River is the place to stay . Wilsons Prom is very busy during summer and school holidays, so if you don't book months ahead you are bound to stay somewhere else in Yanakie or even further away .
