The view is incredible, go there. I had trouble finding proper instructions on how to get to the Mountain Lodge at the base of the hike. I traveled there on 10/30 and a tour bus was still running from the ferry landing at Tau. The trail was accessible, even late in season. Without a bus, visitors will have to take a taxi to the Mountain Lodge base. In Norway, taxis are expensive. A round trip ferry ride from Stavanger costs 104 NOK, the round trip bus ride will cost an additional 170 NOK. Norway is an expensive country. Had the bus not been running, I was prepared to walk from the ferry landing to Pulpit's Rock. Google Maps said the walk could take up to three hours. Norway's tourist site - and almost every Norwegian I met, recommends against attempting this hike in the winter months.
Good luck in your travels!
