Situated amongst the mountains and durian plantations on Samui Island lies an impressive tier of waterfalls. Just hard enough to get to that there are only a handful of tourists, but enough that there are paths leading to and from the waterfall. Perfect.
To get there you must drive through mud along a single track road. Easier on a good scrambler or 4x4 vehicle. Not recommended for scooters, but possible in dry season. The down side, of course, of going in dry season is the waterfall won't be as impressive.
Parking is located at the top of a hill, with a 500m walk down to the waterfall. You can hear it from the moment you step out of the car. Follow the signs down and follow the rumbling of the falls.
Remember on the walk down, not to pick the durians, as it is private land and they are farmed by the owner.
The walk down is steep, but possible in flipflops if you are careful. On the steep bits you can use the helpful trees to hold onto. Many of the rocks are very slippy underfoot and there is a lot of loose rock.
When you get close you start to get glimpses of the wonderful tiered falls. The trees are quite thick so there is little opportunity to fly a drone safely here.
At your own risk, cross the safety rope. There are better views but the rocks are very slippy and there is an enormous drop of around 50m with many bumps for the head. Only the day before did a tourist sadly die at a different waterfall on Samui. I however, took my flipflops off for better grip and stepped past the safety barrier to get a closer look.
It is hard to even appreciate how tall the falls are as we found it hard to get a photo with the bottom layer. We were also standing on the middle layer, with more waterfalls above us.
These are the more gentle falls above. You can get your feet and hands into the extremely fresh water, make sure you have no open wounds if you do this in SE Asia.
This is a great place to take some photographs, chill and generally enjoy being around water. When we were there there wasn't many mosquitos, I think the wind around the waterfalls makes it harder for them, which of course means you can be more relaxed. Not worrying about creatures nibbling you!
