It is too easy to point out the best things in life on social media. To paint a false picture and to hide the details we don't want people to see. That's why I have tried to be very honest in my series about expat life.
However, today it is time I shared some positives with you...
You become a better traveller
Living in the West and travelling to the East used to be a slightly stressful thing. I'd panic about where to eat, what hotels to stay in, how to say please and thank you, how to stay in contact with friends and family.
That changes, now I'd happily jump on a plane without any accommodation booked because I know I will find somewhere. I don't spend hours and hours researching restaurants, sights, hotels. Now it is jump on a plane and ask a local what to see, where to go, what to eat. These have normally led to the best experiences.
Travel is no longer stressful. Going away for the weekend is easy to do (yes you still get into work very tired on Monday), but everything else just slots into place.
Time is spent better now. Personally I no longer shoe horn 10 things into one day. I'm happy to do some sight seeing then a great deal of eating followed by a nap and more eating. That's okay - that is after all why we come on holiday. To relax.
Along with being relaxed because you know everything will work out you also pack better - which takes a lot of stress out of travelling. Carry on luggage all the way. I know that clothing can be cleaned by hand, very easily now.
You can work on holiday
These photos, they were all taken in Krabi, Thailand. I had a 3 day weekend there last year. Whilst here I wrote my school reports in a hammock looking out over the ocean. Who ever made the rule that you can't take work on holiday. It is the perfect place to work. Someone brings you food and drink. Someone else takes care of the cleaning. Easy!

So far I've been to most countries in the East. Laos, Japan, China and Indonesia are the only ones remaining. Hopefully get off to Japan in the very near future. I'm a bit obsessed by their culture. Have you been to SE Asia?

When I get back to school for engineering, that is probably what I will need while doing calculus homework * good sigh * I just hope my wife do all that for me LOL
