Iwakuni - Amazing Kintaikyo (kintai bridge) and Museum in Iwakuni castle in Yamaguchi

in #travel7 years ago

Kintaikyo bridge is an amazing piece of engenering. The orginal Kintai bridge was built in 1673 (the original bridge lasted for over 400 years, renovations were completed in 1953), spanning the Nishiki River in a series of five wooden arches. There is a fee to walk across as the renovation was expensive. I paid only 300 yen to walk across and back again. One side of the bridge has restaraunts and shops. The other side is a beautiful park filled with Torri gates, Shisha dogs, a peaceful pond and you can take a sail ride in Gondola to the top of the mountain where from the castle you have astonishing view of the river.

I spend hours watching this amazing place. I went there always after work in the late afternoon.
