While I was planning my trip to New York and London in March 2017, I did a lot of research about bars and parties for lesbians and, as expected for the two great cities in the world, the list was huge. In between so many options - some really cool and others not so much - I was sure that CubbyHole was a right stopover. I read some reviews about it and the overall reviews were great: the climate was fun, well frequented, cheap drinks and lively music. That's how we started the night that became a "New York lesbian pub crawl."
CubbyHole
CubbyHole stays in Greenwich Village, it’s a alternative and bohemian neighborhood of NYC. We stopped at the 14 Station/8 Av and walked a few more blocks until we reached the corner where the bar is.
When we arrived there around 7pm and the CubbyHole was already packed (which is not difficult because the bar is reeeaally small). It all made even more sense when we discovered that every day has happy hour discounts on drinks, wine and all beers. From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. the drinks costs half the price (how do we miss it?!?!), a pint of beer that costs USD7 at happy hour goes for USD 3.50.
Cubby is a perfect bar to have a drink at the end of the day or even to spend a more unpretentious night. The menu is only for drinks and the music is good and very eclectic (at least on Wednesday it was rolling all sorts of sounds). The decor is pretty cool, with A LOT of things hanging from the ceiling: flags, paper umbrellas, plastic bugs, little lights, feathers and other zillions of colorful and random decorations.
The bar is frequented mainly by lesbians – just a few guys there - of all styles and ages, from femmes to butchs, but everyone was kind and the climate was extremely welcoming.
By the way, on that day I met Lea DeLaria ♥!
Kkkkkk so bad it wasn’t true! This photo I took from the bar Instagram and was taken in January of that year. They say she's a very frequent guest, but we're not lucky to bump into her there.
For anyone planning to get to CubbyHole my tip is to try to go on a Tuesday. We’re told that girls crowd the place and Margaritas are sold for USD2 until 1am. We went on a Wednesday, but if I’d known that before, I would have chosen Tuesday. The bar schedule with the promos you can see here.
Oh, there is one more VERY important detail: they do not accept card! Just that night we had a few dollars in cash so we couldn’t order all the drinks!! Remember strongly of this when you go there!
Address: 281 West 12th St, New York
Next post will be about the classic bar Stonewall In, stay tuned!
Great place!
Nice your comment! Thank you! :)
