The Highest Monument in America is in a country north of South America, yes, in Venezuela.
Despite the political and economic problems facing the country, it is important to highlight the beauties it possesses.
The Monument of the Virgin of Peace, the highest in America, is located in this wonderful tropical country.
The monument is a colossal sculpture commemorating the Virgin Mary, which is 46.72 meters, 16 meters wide, 18 deep at the base and about 1200 tons in height, is made entirely in concrete, raised 11 km to the Southwest of the city of Trujillo in Venezuela; And is considered the highest Statue of America, highest than the Statue of Liberty of New York in the United States and Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Around it, there are mountains and tropical vegetation, which provide a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Trujillo. In addition, it is a cool place, where the fog makes presence during the day.
About its story:
It was inaugurated on December 21, 1983 by the then president of Venezuela Luis Herrera Campins.
It is a work designed by the sculptor Manuel de la Fuente.
It is said that the name of the monument, of the place and of the Virgin refers to the legend of its appearance.
The legend says that the hill called Peña de la Virgen is where the image of the Virgin Mary appeared to several neighbors of the town of Carmona. With very original features and a great youthful spirit, the young woman appeared walking in the evenings to buy candles for her fire, and it was in a grocery store where some men asked her: "Why are you alone? And she would reply: "not alone, but with God, the sun and the stars."
The amazing thing besides its beauty, is that you can enter the interior of the Virgin of Peace, and through its five viewpoints, you can admire on a clear day, almost the entire Trujillo State, part of the Sierra Nevada de Merida and the South Coast of Lake Maracaibo. Something without a doubt, spectacular.
Since I am a native of the Trujillo State, it is normal for one to visit the Monument of the Virgin of Peace, and this year was no exception, along with my cousin, my brother and his girlfriend, we went and had a nice time, the Sun was present but there were moments where the fog appeared and everything turned white.
It is important to point out that, unfortunately because of the bad government that the country is experiencing, tourism is not properly exploited in Venezuela with so many wonders that it has, that is why the world does not know that the highest monument in America is in Venezuela, State Trujillo.
I hope that in the not too distant future, tourism will be highlighted in Venezuela, and people outside the country come to visit the Monument as well as admire the Statue of Liberty or Christ the Redeemer.
