Nepal Travel Diary (Part 1): A Day in Kathmandu

in #travel7 years ago

Last month, my family and I decided to travel to Nepal over the 3-day holiday here in the UAE. Since it was only for 3 days, we only had time to go around Kathmandu and Nagarkot to view the Himalayas. This post is about our first day in Kathmandu.

I will start with the amazing mountain ranges we saw from the plane. It was such a treat that I didn't sleep at all during the flight.

When we landed, we spent about almost an hour in the immigration since we were not familiar with their system and there were many tourists. After we got out of the airport, we had trouble finding the driver from our hotel but it was only few minutes when we finally met him.

During our first night, we walked around Thamel and spent a couple of hours in a cozy restaurant called Electric Pagoda. I had my first Dal Bhat and I instantly fell in love with it! And now I am craving for it again :(

The night was also cold and so after buying some little souvenirs, we head to our hotel, which to our surprise was just across the entrance of Thamel.

So our first day in Kathmandu was just only for few hours but still, we fell in love with the food and people despite of the dust, carbon monoxide from vehicles and traffic jams.

For part two of my Nepal travel diary, I will write about our travel to Nagarkot from Kathmandu, which is quite a story to tell.
