안녕하세요~ 뉴질랜드에 살고 있는 키위♥ 입니다. 혼자서 하는 뉴질랜드 와이헤케 섬 (Waiheke Island) 여행. 그 두번째 에피소드를 적어봅니다.

This is the second episode of my little adventure, visiting Waiheke Island ALONE!
둘째 날 아침, 밤새 더위를 많이 타서 창문을 (제가 닫으면 이 사람이 또 ㅋㅋㅋ) 여는 독일 여성 룸메 덕에 온 얼굴이 숲속 모기의 희생양이 되어 곰보가 된 채로 약간 우울해져 밖으로 나왔더니 비가 왔더라구요. 게다가 약간 부슬부슬 내리고 있었습니다.
In the second day morning, I was really sad about my very very ugly, horrifying face with countless number of mosquito bites (because of the German girl roommate who felt hot and opened the window without any mosquito nets while everyone was sleeping). I went outside, I noticed that it was rainy.
모처럼 큰 맘 먹고 평소의 생활비에 비하면 나름 돈 많이 들여서 온 몇 년만의 여행인데 비가 오니 제 마음 속에는 천둥번개가 쾅쾅 치는 것 같이 느껴졌습니다. ㅠㅅㅠ 그래도 이왕 온 여행. 조금이라도 즐겁게 마음 먹어보자는 생각으로 이어폰을 귀에 꽂고 신나는 노래를 흥얼거리며 우산을 쓰고 언덕길을 올랐습니다.
I felt like there was a huge thunderstorm in my heart since I made a really hard decision to come holiday trip, paying relatively lot of money comparing to my daily expense. :'( But, yeah I tried to be positive because the weather was out of my control anyway and as I told you, it had been such a long time that I enjoyed a trip due to my work. So, I put my earphones with loud, exciting music and walked up the hill, wearing a umbrella.
목적지는 와이헤케 섬 북쪽에 있는 팜 비치(Palm beach) 였습니다. 숙소인 헤케루아 롯지에서 꽤 멀리 떨어져 있었지만 원체 걷는 걸 좋아하는 저는 하염없이 생각에 잠겨 노래를 들으며 걸었습니다. 역시나 날씨가 우중충해서 바다색도 그리 아름답지 않아보여 좀 슬퍼졌습니다.
The goal destination was Palm beach located at the North end of Waiheke Island. It was quite far from the place where I stayed (Hekerua Lodge) but I really like to walk long distance. But once I got there, the weather did not clear up so, the colour of the ocean was disappointingly not that pretty.
해안가 근처에 자라고 있는 뉴질랜드 원시 고사리 종류인 실버펀(Silver fern)과 무슨 꽃인지 모르겠지만 보랏빛 부케같은 꽃이 들에 보여 몇장 찍었습니다. 약간 시들해져 아래로 꺾인 꽃을 모아 부케처럼 만들어도 봤습니다.
I saw Silver fern and some interesting shaped purple flowers nearby the beach. I took some photos. The flowers (Does anyone know the name of this flower?) looked like a beautiful bouquet.
예쁜 꽃으로 울적해진 마음을 조금 달래고 발걸음을 돌려 버스 정류장 쪽으로 향했습니다. 다음 목적지인 섬 남쪽의 오스텐드(Ostend)라는 지역으로 가기 위해서였습니다. 생각보다 버스는 금방왔습니다. 작은 섬이라서 배차간격이 안 좋은데 운이 좋게 바로 잡아 탈 수 있었습니다. 멍하니 창문을 바라보며 버스에 앉아있다보니 오스텐드에 도착했습니다.
After I took some photo and became calmed down, I went to a bus stop to go to my next destination called Ostend, located on South part of the island. The bus came to the stop way quicker than my expectation. I was quite lucky because the interval between the buses must be bad since Waiheke is such a small island. Soon, I got Ostend.
모래사장이 있는 해변이 아닌 땅이 깔끔하게 깎여 바다랑 맞닿은 곳이 나왔습니다. 비교적 좁은 만 안에 듬성듬성 떠 있는 요트가 보였습니다. 그리고 하늘을 보니 서서히 먹구름이 개면서 파란 하늘이 드러나기 시작했습니다.
It was not a beach but I could get into the sea (though I didn't do that haha). I could see some yachts buoyed, far from the land. Then I saw the sky, rainy clouds were slowly cleared up.
금세 뉴질랜드의 눈부시게 아름다운 자연이 다시금 눈 앞에 펼쳐졌습니다. 해가 들기 시작하니 방금까지 눈에 띄지도 않던 바다근처에 피어난 오렌지색 꽃도 예쁜 탐스러움을 발산했습니다.
Soon, beautiful sky of New Zealand showed up in front my eyes. The orange flowers which were not visible when it was cloudy, became even prettier and looked fresher.
기분이 또 금세 좋아지자 ^^;; 배가 고파왔습니다. 시간을 보니 어느샌가 점심시간이 훌쩍 지나있었습니다. 아침에 부지런히 준비해온 간단한 샌드위치와 생수를 꺼내 대충 해결했습니다. 혼자 조용한 시간을 보내고 있는 그 때, 한 키위 노부부가 다가와 제게 말을 걸었습니다. 동양인 여자가 혼자 (팅팅 부은 얼굴로) 점심을 먹고 있는 게 신기해 보였는 건지도 모르겠습니다. 이런저런 이야기를 나누고, 두분께 갈만한 곳을 물었습니다. 괜찮은 곳이다싶어 이후의 목적지는 그곳으로 정했습니다.
I became happy again ^^;; and I felt hungry. The time was about 1 o'clock. I took out my small lunch, made in the morning, and a bottle of water. Suddenly, a elderly couple came to me and said "Hi" to me. It must be quite interesting that unknown Asian girl with swollen ugly face having a lunch alone. :'( We had a small talk and I asked them where I could go next. They kindly recommended me the place not far from there and I decided to visit there.
사진에서 보시는 것처럼 뉴질랜드에는 사람이 많이 모일 만한 유유자적한 곳에 바베큐를 할 수 있는 장비들이 곳곳에 마련되어 있습니다. 자판기처럼 아래에 동전을 넣으면 철판에 열이 오르기 시작하고 30분정도 열이 유지됩니다. 차를 타고 여럿이 와서 아름다운 바다를 보며 바베큐를 먹으면 정말 재밌을 것 같다는 생각이 들었습니다.
As you can see in this picture, you can easily meet this BBQ place in the park, nearby beach, and some beautiful places. Once you put some coin under the deck (just like a vending machine) the heat will be up and you can cook something on the cook top. I think it will be great if I had a car with friends and enjoy BBQ with them.
노부부가 알려준 저의 다음 목적지는 오스텐드에서 그리 멀지 않은 Dead dog bay라는 해안가였습니다. 목적지로 걸어가는 내내 길이 예뻐서 셀카도 잔뜩 찍었네요. 얼굴이 못생기게 불어터져서 차마 보여드릴 수가 없습니다 ㅠㅅㅠㅋㅋ
The place that kind elderly couple told me was Dead dog bay. The street towards Dead dog bay was so beautiful and I took a lot of selfies. But I cannot show you because my face was.... hahaha
여긴 원래는 습지에서 사는 식물들이 있는 식물원인데, 사정이 있는지 그 날은 문을 열지 않아서 길을 따라 내려가보니 또 다른 바닷가가 나왔습니다.
Dead dog bay is actually a botanic garden where plants living in the swamps are displayed. But it was closed that day (Maybe because of Christmas holiday). So, I went down again, to go and see the ocean.
해안선을 따라 넓은 갯벌이 펼쳐져 있었습니다. 한국 서해안 갯벌처럼 진득한 건 아니지만, 조개 껍질이 자잘하게 수 놓인 바닷가는 참 아름다웠습니다. 심심해서 땅을 살짝 파보니 조개가 똻! 나오더라구요. 뉴질랜드에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 pipi (한국의 맛조개 같이 생겼어요)와 cockle (한국의 바지락처럼 생김)이 나왔습니다. 채집 장비를 준비해 가지 않은 상황이라 그냥 한움큼 캐서 가지고 놀았어요.ㅋㅋ
There was a small beach with some light mud. I saw some shells on the beach and dig the mud. Then I got some alive shellfish! They were mostly pipi and cockles which are New Zealand native shellfish. Because I did not even have a proper plastic bag, I just got them in my whole hand and played with it just like a child haha.
널리 펼쳐진 들판에서 민들레 같은 꽃도 꺾어 꽃반지도 만들고..ㅋㅋㅋ 암튼 혼자 소꿉놀이? 하면서 신나게 놀았습니다. (원래 혼자 잘 놀아요ㅠ)
I also made a flower ring with a flower that looked like dandelion. lol Anyway, yeah I enjoyed my holiday haha.
숙소로 돌아가야 할 것 같은 시간이 되어 해안가에서 벗어나 버스정류장으로 향했습니다. 아까는 보지 못한 포도밭이 드넓게 펼쳐져 있었습니다. 역시 와인으로 유명한 섬 답네요.
It was about the time I needed to go back to the lodge. I walked toward the bus stop. I could see some vineyards that I couldn't see when I went down the beach. Of course, it is Waiheke which is well-known as the island of wine.
숙소로 가는 버스를 타기 위해 정류장으로 가다가 닭떼를 만났습니다. 새(특히 살아있는 닭과 비둘기..)를 무서워하는 저는 가까이 가진 않았지만 멀찍이 떨어져 보니 색색깔 종류별로 다양한 닭들이 있었습니다.
I saw a folk of chicken when I walked to the bus stop. I am very scared of birds (especially alive chicken and pigeons..). So, I did not go close to them but they had a various different colours.
근데 자꾸 위험하게 차도로 갔다가 풀밭에서 놀다가 하더라구요. 웃긴게 차가 오면 귀신같이 알고 풀숲으로 다다다다 뛰어서 들어가버립니다.ㅋㅋㅋ 햇빛이 쨍쨍 쪄서 나무 밑에서 주로 풀을 쪼고 있었습니다.
They dangerously crossed the road and came back and repeated that again and again. The funny thing was when a car was coming, they knew that and rushed into the forest. lol Most of them were picking something under the tree shade.
그렇게 저의 여행 이틀째 날이 저물어 갔습니다. 숙소에 도착하자마자 씻고 대충 저녁을 라면으로 때운 뒤 잠들었습니다만... 1편에서 말씀드린 독일 룸메이트가 자꾸 덥다고 또 창문을 열어제끼는 통에 모기 물린게 너무 가려워서 새벽에 몇번이나 깨버렸네요ㅠㅠ
이불을 뒤집어 쓰고 자도 어찌나 무섭게 달려드는지.. 게다가 왜 또 그렇게 눈만 집중적으로 빨아대는지ㅠㅠ 다음날 아침 얼굴을 보자마자 울고 싶었습니다ㅠ

That's it for my second day. I felt very tired once I got back to the place. I had a quick shower and made and ate instant noodles. Then fell in asleep straight away. But... the German roommate opened the window again while I was sleeping and I felt really itchy which made me awake forcefully. Even I covered myself with blanket completely, but those mosquitoes had bitten me really badly (especially MY EYES!!!). I wanted to cry when I saw my face next day...
Anyway, my next episode will be about the last day at Waiheke island! Thanks for reading my post! :D

Very beautiful country! I find it hilarious that there are random chickens all over the place like that.
Yeah! I thought so too hahaha
They actually looked quite dangerous but I am not sure if those chicken owner? (farmer) knows that they are free to go anywhere :O

I am so scared of alive chickens so luckily I did not attack them haha
