One of the indispensables of the Bosphorus view is undoubtedly the Maiden's Tower(Kız Kulesi).
This tower was built on a tiny island off the coast of Uskudar, Istanbul. It has many legends about it. One of these is Leandros's legend, who also gave the name of the tower (Leander's Tower). The lovers'(Leondros and Hero) story who challenge the sea between them will end up with tragedy. In a stormy night, when Leondros sees a light on the deck,he thinks the Lover Hero is calling him and jumps into the sea. However, this time it is not Hero who lights up, but someone who understands that lovers meet secretly every night turns the light off.
Leondros is buried in the waters of the Bosphorus;Hero can not stand the pain of that lost and ends her life by jumping from the tower.
At the end of the story, a sea Lighthouse is built wherever tower is used in memory of lovers.
Maiden's Tower has been used as a defense fortress, a shooting station, a prison, a quarantine room, a radio station, a tax office, and a lighthouse during the years. The tower, which is a symbol of Uskudar,Istanbul, was restored by a private company
in 2000 and then It is serving as a café and restaurant during the day.
