I've created some sort of challenge for myself to go further and further up north every year because I want to explore the wilder parts of Scotland. Oh boy! It is so worth it. I really can't put it into words how breathtaking the views are and how raw the scenery is. It's most definitely something you just have to see with your own eyes and feel with your soul.
Dunrobin castle is actually a stately home in the Scottish Highlands situated right by the sea which you can see from the windows. The moment I laid eyes on it I fell in love. Can you imagine waking up every single morning to such majestic view?
We only need to find ourselves some lords No big deal, right?
It was originally built in the Middle Ages but most of the present buildings and the gardens were added later by Sir Charles Barry in the 18th century. The castle has been Lord Sutherland's home for many years but I found it very curious that it has also served as a boarding school for several years. Ahhh, I would love to go to school there!
Now, however, it is open to the public and you can freely explore some of the rooms which are 189 in total, making Dunrobin the largest castle in the Northern Highlands. Can you believe it? Finding your way in that maize is probably a challenge!
The gardens are absolutely spectacular! They were inspired by the Gardens of Versailles in France and you can definitely see the French aesthetics. Classiness at its finest!
It might just be me but I felt serious Alice in Wonderland vibes when I was walking around the gardens. There were many ponds and gorgeous corners with roses. I almost heard the Red Queen yelling "Off with their heads!". Moreover, if you look close enough and let your imagination run wild, I swear you can see the rabbit being late yet again!
Unfortunately, it wasn't allowed to take photos inside the castle but I promise you that at least for an hour you're going to feel royal! So who would you be? I am debating between Mary Queen of Scots and Merida from Brave but who am I kidding? Of course I'll choose Disney
Smiles and pandas,
Krisi
This castle must be hundreds of years old but it is very much beautiful.
it is absolutely amazing!
If I should visit the UK, I will surely locate this castle.
It's in the north-west part of Scotland :)
Thanks a lot.
Wow this castle looks beautiful! Having recently moved to the UK, I need a few places to add to my 'bucket list' to travel to throughout the next year :)
You should definitely visit the castle. It's so gorgeous <3
